Courtyard by Marriott Madurai is bringing the warmth and nostalgia of a traditional Tamil wedding feast to its guests with Kalyana Virundhu, part of its Namma Veetu Kalyanam campaign. The special dining experience celebrates the culinary heritage of Tamil Nadu through an elaborate banana-leaf lunch inspired by the traditional kalyana sappadu.
Scheduled for Sunday, 18 October 2026, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM, the experience invites diners to enjoy a wedding-style feast that brings together regional flavours, generous servings and the familiar warmth of a celebration at home.
In Tamil households, wedding celebrations are closely associated with the grand feast shared by family members, friends and guests. From the aroma of freshly prepared dishes to the sight of a banana leaf filled with traditional delicacies, the wedding meal remains an important part of Tamil culture. Inspired by this tradition, Kalyana Virundhu features a selection of vegetarian specialities and non-vegetarian delicacies, showcasing the variety of flavours found in Tamil Nadu's culinary landscape.
The experience celebrates food as an expression of hospitality and togetherness, recreating the feeling of being welcomed to a wedding celebration at home. At the centre of the experience is the traditional banana leaf, which continues to hold cultural and practical importance in South Indian dining.
Beyond its distinctive presentation, a fresh banana leaf offers a biodegradable serving surface and can release subtle aromatic compounds when hot food is placed on it. Its broad surface also allows dishes to be arranged and served in the traditional style associated with Tamil wedding feasts.
The continued use of banana leaves reflects a longstanding connection between food, nature and regional dining customs. Through this experience, Courtyard by Marriott Madurai brings attention to a tradition that continues to be part of celebrations and everyday meals across South India.
