Gourami in Powai, Mumbai, is celebrating Durga Puja with a limited-edition Bengali festive thali on October 17 and 18, 2026, bringing the flavours of Bengal to the city's dining scene through a specially curated menu available for lunch and dinner.
Following its Onam celebrations and exploration of South India's regional culinary traditions, Gourami is turning its attention to Eastern India with a menu inspired by Bengal's festive food culture. The two-day experience brings together traditional starters, home-style preparations, signature fish and meat dishes, and classic Bengali sweets.
The experience begins with a Gondhoraj Lemon Soda, prepared with the fragrant Gondhoraj lemon, followed by a selection of Bengali snacks. The starters include Beguni Chop, a brinjal fritter; Chenna Pakoda, made with cottage cheese; Macher Chop, a traditional Bengali fish croquette; and Gondhoraj Chicken Fry.
The vegetarian main course showcases familiar Bengali preparations, including Cholar Dal, Aloor Dum and Panchmishali Torkari, a medley of five vegetables. Paneer Paturi, steamed in a banana leaf, is served alongside Begun Bhaja, Potol Bhaja and Aloo Bhaja, bringing together a selection of traditional vegetable preparations.
For non-vegetarian diners, the thali features several regional specialities. Bhetki Paturi, fish steamed in a banana leaf, is joined by Kosha Mangsho, a slow-cooked Bengali mutton preparation, and Chingri Macher Malai, a prawn curry prepared with a creamy coconut-based gravy.
The dishes are accompanied by Luchi, Ghee Bhaat, Bhoger Khichuri and Kolkata Chicken Biryani. Papor and Bhoger Tomato Chutney complete the spread, adding familiar accompaniments to the festive meal.
The thali concludes with a selection of Bengali desserts, including Mishti Doi, Payesh, Rosogolla and Sondesh. From the creamy sweetness of Mishti Doi to Payesh, Bengal's traditional rice pudding, the dessert selection draws on the region's well-known festive and mithai traditions.
The limited-edition menu is available for both dine-in and takeaway, giving guests the option to enjoy the Durga Puja spread at the restaurant or at home.
