The Southern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, recently hosted a Capacity Building Training Programme for hotel housekeeping professionals in Coimbatore, focusing on “Best Practices in Housekeeping.” The initiative was conducted jointly with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, Coimbatore office, and SKAL International Coimbatore Chapter at Hotel IKON by Annapoorna on 25th November 2025.
The programme brought together 75 housekeeping professionals from 25 hotels across Coimbatore, Valparai, and Pollachi. Designed to strengthen hospitality skills, the sessions aimed to improve guest experience, raise service quality benchmarks, boost operational efficiency, and reinforce professional housekeeping standards.
Shri D. Venkatesan, Regional Director (South), Ministry of Tourism, addressed the participants, underlining the importance of sustainable housekeeping practices, superior guest satisfaction, and keeping pace with emerging industry trends.
Dr. Eugene, Lecturer at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Chennai, conducted an expert session on Best Practices in Housekeeping, featuring practical demonstrations, innovative techniques, and insights into global operational standards. Attendees found the session highly interactive and informative.
Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Smt. T. Jegatheswari, District Tourist Officer, Government of Tamil Nadu, emphasized the role of service quality in shaping a destination’s image, noting that excellent guest experiences directly contribute to tourism growth and brand perception.
Participants appreciated the practical relevance of the programme and expressed interest in similar workshops in the future. Indiatourism Chennai plans to extend such hospitality-focused capacity-building initiatives to other southern cities in collaboration with industry bodies and academic institutions.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism’s larger vision of enhancing tourism competitiveness through skills development, stronger industry partnerships, and improved visitor experiences.
