Ugadi arrives quietly but meaningfully. It's the kind of festival that lives in the details: the smell of freshly made Obbattu, a glass of cold Panakam, the familiar comfort of Bisibele Bath, and the symbolic mix of flavours in Ugadi Pachadi that reminds you, gently, that life contains everything at once. JW Kitchen at JW Marriott Hotel Bengaluru is honouring all of that this year with a festive spread that draws from the culinary traditions of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
The celebration begins the traditional way. Guests are welcomed with Panakam, the jaggery-based festive drink, alongside refreshing buttermilk and tender coconut water. It's the kind of beginning that immediately sets the right mood for the afternoon.
The live counters bring the energy of a festive home kitchen to the restaurant. Freshly prepared Obbattu (Holige) is made through the afternoon, filling the space with an aroma that anyone who has grown up celebrating Ugadi will recognise immediately. A variety of dosas served with house-made chutneys rounds out the lively starters section.
At the heart of the meal sits the Ugadi Pachadi, the dish that carries the festival's philosophy in every bite: sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy all at once, a reminder that a full life contains all of these in equal measure. Alongside it are time-honoured favourites including Bisibele Bath, Puliyogare, Kosambari, and Avial, dishes that feel like they belong at a family table rather than a restaurant, which is exactly the point.
The meal closes on a sweet note with Obbattu, a trio of Payasams, and Kesari Bath. Simple, comforting, and just right.
JW Kitchen is offering two distinct ways to experience the Ugadi celebration this year. The Ugadi Lunch runs across three days with a focused, traditional spread, while the Ugadi Heritage Brunch on the 22nd extends into a fuller, more leisurely experience with and without alcohol options available.
