Kosala, an Initiative by Hindalco Industries Ltd., has inaugurated its first boutique in Greater Kailash I, New Delhi. The launch marks an important step in taking the heritage of Kosa silk from Chhattisgarh to a wider audience in the capital.
The boutique was inaugurated on Tuesday, 24th February 2026 at 11:00 AM, N-7, N Block Market, Greater Kailash I, New Delhi. The ceremony was graced by Padmabhushan Smt. Rajashree Birla. Shri Asharan Agarwala and Shri Satish Pal were present at the event, along with Suvrabh Khedekar, Director - Kosala.
Kosala livelihood and social foundation is a not-for-profit social enterprise and a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries of the Aditya Birla Group. The initiative is focused on empowering Kosa silk weavers and reelers of Chhattisgarh. Beyond preserving the craft, Kosala aims to build sustainable livelihoods, give artisans their own identity, and recognise them as equal stakeholders in continuing their cultural legacy.
The project began under the group’s Sustainable Mining initiative to support communities with skill development and fair income opportunities. Since its inception, Kosala has reached over 700 artisans across Raigarh and Jangir-Champa districts of Chhattisgarh through training and income-generating support.
In 2025 alone, the initiative engaged 379 community members including weavers, reelers, and artisans involved in pre- and post-loom processes, both full-time and part-time. This led to a collective income of ₹88 lakh for artisans in FY 25, and a cumulative income of ₹2.1 crore across the cluster over three years.
With continued support from Hindalco Industries Ltd., Kosala is working to strengthen the entire Kosa silk value chain. By blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, the initiative is building a system that ensures artisans can carry forward their heritage in a dignified and sustainable way.
The opening of the New Delhi boutique now offers customers direct access to authentic Kosa silk creations while supporting a larger movement focused on community empowerment and craft preservation.
