Overview

India’s surfing community is gearing up for a major competitive event as the Surfing Federation of India announces the Little Andaman Pro 2026 – National Surf & SUP Championship. Scheduled from April 9 to 12, 2026, the event will take place in Little Andaman, bringing together the country’s top-ranked surfers and stand-up paddle (SUP) athletes.

Presented by Andaman and Nicobar Tourism, the championship marks the first stop of the National Surf Series, setting the tone for the road to the national championship. Athletes will compete in the Senior Division across both Surfing and Stand-Up Paddle disciplines.

The competition will unfold at the iconic Butler Bay, a location widely regarded as one of India’s most promising surf spots. Known for its shallow reef break, Butler Bay offers long, clean, and powerful waves—ideal for high-performance surfing and advanced manoeuvres. Unlike mainland beach breaks, the reef conditions provide a more technical challenge, allowing athletes to push their limits.

The event is a significant step in expanding India’s competitive surfing circuit, exposing athletes to diverse wave environments and strengthening the national talent pipeline. Such platforms play a crucial role in preparing Indian surfers for international competitions.

Commenting on the event, Arun Vasu said, “The Little Andaman Pro marks an important milestone for Indian surfing. It not only strengthens our National Surf Series but also gives athletes the opportunity to compete in high-quality reef conditions, which is essential for their growth at the international level.”

Top athletes are equally enthusiastic. Kamali Prakash, the current Women’s National Champion, shared, “It’s exciting to start the National Surf Series in a place like Little Andaman. Competing in these waves pushes all of us to perform at a higher level.”

SUP athlete Sekar added, “Little Andaman offers a unique challenge, especially for SUP racing. Events like this help us gain valuable competition experience and improve as athletes.

Beyond the competition, the championship highlights the Andaman Islands’ growing potential as a hub for surfing and ocean sports. With its pristine waters, coral reefs, and consistent swells, the region is increasingly attracting both athletes and adventure travellers.

The initiative also aims to engage local communities by creating opportunities for participation, training, and employment within the ocean sports ecosystem. Officials from Andaman and Nicobar Tourism emphasised the importance of promoting sustainable tourism alongside such events.

As global interest in surfing continues to rise, destinations that combine world-class waves with responsible tourism practices are gaining prominence. The Little Andaman Pro 2026 reflects this shift, celebrating the sport while encouraging environmental awareness and sustainable interaction with marine ecosystems.
