This August, Mumbai will experience the rich flavours and traditions of Kerala’s Onam celebrations as South of Vindhyas at The Orchid Hotel Mumbai presents its grand “Adipoli Onam Sadhya”. Continuing its 25-year tradition of celebrating Onam, the restaurant will offer an elaborate vegetarian feast featuring 56 traditional preparations from 22nd to 26th August 2026 for lunch and dinner.
Onam Sadhya is one of Kerala’s most cherished culinary traditions, traditionally served on a banana leaf with a generous spread of vegetables, curries, rice preparations, pickles, chutneys and sweets. More than just a meal, the feast represents the spirit of togetherness, hospitality and abundance that defines Kerala’s harvest festival.
At South of Vindhyas, MasterChef Bala and his culinary team have curated a special menu inspired by traditional Kerala recipes and the diverse flavours of the region.
Guests can begin their Sadhya experience with refreshing favourites like Kachia Moru and Thakkali Rasam, followed by festive accompaniments including Banana Chips Miri, Chakka Upperi, Nendrankai Chips, Achappam, Unni Appam and crisp pappadams.
The main course showcases a variety of Kerala classics, including coconut-based specialities like Avial, Olan and Erissery, along with Kalan, Kootu Curry, Puliserry, Ulli Theeyal, Payaru Mezhukkupuratti and Parippu Curry.
The feast will also feature traditional accompaniments such as Kerala Red Rice, Steamed Rice, Appam, Kal Dosa, Lemon Sevai, Coconut Sevai and Malabari Paratha, offering guests a combination of different textures and flavours that make a traditional Sadhya special.
No Onam celebration is complete without desserts, and the spread will include a selection of traditional Pradhamams and Payasams such as Ada Pradhamam, Kadala Pradhamam, Parippu Payasam, Pal Payasam, Nei Payasam and Mambazha Pradhamam. Guests can also enjoy Panchamrutham, Pazham Puri and Kerala-style black and red halwa.
Adding to the festive experience, South of Vindhyas will feature floral arrangements and traditional décor inspired by Kerala’s Onam celebrations. The ambience aims to bring the warmth of God’s Own Country to Mumbai while complementing the feast with authentic South Indian hospitality.
For those familiar with Onam traditions, the Adipoli Onam Sadhya offers a nostalgic taste of Kerala’s festive flavours, while first-time guests can discover the culture, rituals and generosity behind one of the state’s biggest celebrations.
Avial, Olan and Erissery, Kalan, Kootu Curry, Puliserry, Ulli Theeyal, Payaru Mezhukkupuratti, Parippu Curry, Kal Dosa, Lemon Sevai, Coconut Sevai and Kadala Pradhamam.
