Nawab Saheb at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake is bringing the flavours and cultural traditions of Kashmir to Mumbai with “Kashmir, By the Lake”, a three-evening culinary experience led by Chef Nalini Moti Sadhu of Matamaal.
Taking place from 8 to 10 October 2026, the experience draws a connection between Mumbai's Powai Lake and Kashmir's Dal Lake, bringing together Kashmiri Pandit cuisine, traditional music, décor, art and storytelling.
Chef Nalini Moti Sadhu, Chef-Owner of Matamaal, has spent more than a decade showcasing Kashmiri culinary traditions through recipes rooted in her family heritage. Her work focuses on preserving regional ingredients, techniques and stories while introducing Kashmiri cuisine to audiences across India and internationally.
At Nawab Saheb, the chef will showcase the distinctive traditions of Kashmiri Pandit cuisine, which includes both vegetarian and meat-based preparations and is traditionally cooked without onion, garlic or ginger. The culinary tradition is distinct from the Wazwan repertoire more commonly associated with Kashmir.
The experience will begin with a traditional Kahwa welcome, followed by a menu featuring dishes such as Dum Aloo, Nadur Yakhni, Paneer Tuj, Mutton Roganjosh, Rista, Tabakmaaz and Gaad Nadur.
The menu will also feature traditional Kashmiri desserts, including a whisky-flambé dessert. Guests can choose between à la carte offerings and two curated set menus, paired with a selection of Indian craft spirits.
Beyond the food, the three evenings will incorporate elements intended to recreate the atmosphere of a Kashmiri cultural experience. Kashmiri-inspired décor will complement live santoor music and jal tarang, while a curated Kashmiri Art Bazaar will introduce guests to elements of the region's craft traditions.
The lakeside location of Nawab Saheb at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake provides the setting for the experience, with the programme designed around the shared visual and cultural associations of Powai Lake and Dal Lake.
With its combination of Kashmiri Pandit cuisine, music, art and lakeside ambience, “Kashmir, By the Lake” offers diners an opportunity to explore the Valley's culinary traditions through a three-evening experience in Mumbai.
