Adani Group, a leading Indian conglomerate, is expanding its portfolio by stepping into the hospitality real estate sector with an ambitious plan to build two premium hotels near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The initiative, as reported by The Economic Times, involves an investment of Rs 1.5 billion ($200 million) over the next five years, underscoring the group's commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and services at one of India's bustling airports.

Located strategically near the international terminal, these hotels are poised to become an integral part of the airport's extensive development plan, which includes the addition of retail, commercial spaces, and entertainment zones. This move not only signifies Adani Group's entry into the hospitality realm but also its strategy to partner with experienced operators in the sector for the management of these properties.

While the Adani Group has not officially responded to inquiries regarding the hotel launch, sources indicate that discussions with potential hospitality partners are already in progress. One such partnership could potentially emerge at the Adani Shantigram township, hinting at the conglomerate's broader vision for its hospitality ventures.

The addition of these two hotels is expected to significantly bolster Ahmedabad’s luxury accommodation inventory, adding approximately 800 rooms to the current tally of over 6,500 five-star rooms within the next three years. This expansion is timely, considering the rapid growth of business, industry, and tourism in Ahmedabad and neighbouring Gandhinagar. The influx of investments and tourists to the region has already spurred the local hospitality sector's growth, with six new hotels launched since 2020 and two more under development along the SP Ring Road.

This development comes on the heels of Fern Hotels and Resorts acquiring the Metropole Hotel in Ahmedabad under a revenue-share model, as reported by Hotelier India. The acquisition marks Fern Hotels’ 24th operational hotel in Gujarat, further testament to the state's growing appeal as a destination for both business and leisure travellers.

The Adani Group's foray into hospitality at Ahmedabad airport represents a significant milestone in the city's ongoing development as a key economic and tourist hub in India. It reflects a growing trend of integrating luxury accommodations with airport infrastructure to cater to the sophisticated needs of international and domestic travellers.
