Ayodhya, a city revered for its religious significance, is poised for a remarkable transformation in the hospitality sector, with expectations to welcome 50 to 100 hotels within the next 3-4 years. This surge is a response to the city's growing stature as a global religious destination, catalyzed by the ongoing and anticipated developments around the Ram Temple.
Taj Hotels Expands Its Footprint
The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), parent company of Taj Hotels, is at the forefront of this expansion. The company has already established a diverse presence in Ayodhya through its upscale Vivanta, lean luxury Ginger, and SeleQtions brands, amassing a combined inventory of about 400 rooms. The anticipated addition of a fourth property under the Taj brand signifies the group's commitment to catering to a broad spectrum of travelers, from luxury seekers to budget-conscious guests.
The hospitality boom in Ayodhya is not limited to Taj Hotels. Radisson Hotel Group, through its chairman emeritus and principal advisor for South Asia, K B Kachru, has confirmed that 12 hotels, ranging from five-star to midscale, are set to open in the city. This includes the recently inaugurated Park Inn by Radisson, which opened its doors just before the Ram Temple's grand unveiling.
Other major players like the Oberoi Group and Bharat Hotels are also venturing into religious tourism, adapting their offerings to meet the unique needs of Indian travelers. The Oberoi Group's Trident brand, known for catering to foreign and group travelers, is undergoing a transformation to appeal more to the domestic market, including enhancements like larger rooms.
The burgeoning demand for accommodation in Ayodhya has attracted new entrants into the market. EaseMyTrip, primarily known as a travel portal, is venturing into the hospitality sector with a significant investment of Rs 100 crore in Jeewani Hospitality Pvt Ltd for a five-star project in Ayodhya. This move underscores the potential investors see in Ayodhya's hospitality landscape, driven by the city's religious and cultural resurgence.
The rapid development of Ayodhya's hospitality sector is a testament to the city's evolving status as a major pilgrimage and tourist destination. This growth is expected to generate substantial economic benefits, including job creation and infrastructure development, further boosting Ayodhya's appeal to visitors from around the world. As the city prepares to accommodate a wave of new hotels, the focus remains on ensuring that development is sustainable and aligns with Ayodhya's sacred character and heritage.
