The Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts, a leading luxury hotel brand in India, have revealed their new venture into Northeast India with the signing of a management agreement for a 140-room hotel in Ranka, Sikkim. This move marks the brand's expansion into this captivating region, owned by the SIBIN Group, approximately 10 kilometers from the capital city on a sprawling 17-acre plot overlooking Gangtok Hill. Scheduled to open in December 2026, The Leela Sikkim aims to redefine the hospitality landscape in the region with its inspirational design, thoughtful programming, and signature services.
In a statement, Mr. Anuraag Bhatnagar, CEO of The Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts, expressed delight in introducing The Leela brand to Northeast India through the Leela Sikkim project. He highlighted Sikkim's pristine appeal, a destination blending urbanization, rich cultural heritage, and unexplored natural beauty. The expansion aligns with the global leisure traveler's growing demand for authentic and transformative journeys that express a region's natural beauty, heritage, cuisine, and culture.
Mr. Neel Chhetri, Proprietor of SIBIN Group, shared his excitement about partnering with The Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts, foreseeing Leela Sikkim becoming a sought-after leisure and wellness destination. He expressed confidence that the collaboration and investments made would showcase the hidden Himalayan treasure to the world.
The Leela Sikkim is designed to offer guests a tranquil and luxurious experience, featuring 35 independent luxury villas, 20 wellness villas, 13 twin villas, a 6-room double storey villa, and 88 luxury rooms in a hotel block. The resort will provide a range of dining options, a state-of-the-art wellness center, a casino, and various indoor and outdoor activities.
This expansion into Northeast India reflects The Leela's commitment to growing in key leisure and resort destinations across the country. The brand aims to introduce Sikkim as a mystical Himalayan destination, providing guests with authentic experiences that capture the region's culture, art, wellness, flavors, and natural beauty.
