In the spirit of Christmas, the tradition of cake mixing has evolved beyond its Christian origins, becoming a nationwide festive phenomenon. Courtyard by Marriott Chennai kickstarted its early Christmas celebrations with a heartwarming cake-mixing ceremony on November 4th. This year's rendition held a special place as it unfolded at the Rising Star Outreach of India in Tamil Nadu.

Rising Star Outreach is a force dedicated to enhancing the lives of those affected by leprosy through social and medical rehabilitation. The Marriott Home, an initiative of Rising Star, began in 2004 as a small residence offering shelter to 27 children. Marriott India joined forces, establishing the Marriott Home in Chennai, which has since grown into a haven for 350 children. The home has gained recognition for its commitment to excellence, preparing these children for integration into mainstream society.

As the dedicated team of Chefs and Food and beverage Professionals prepared for the event at the Marriott home, excitement bubbled among the children. The ceremony featured approximately 100 kg of dried fruits and nuts, all ready to be mixed with fruit juices and syrups. The children, adorned in Santa caps and aprons, immersed themselves in the festive spirit.  General Manager Mr. Sanjeev Mandal highlighted the historical significance of the ritual, symbolizing the anticipation of joyous times and marking the beginning of the season of giving. The event was filled with cheerful conversations, laughter, and a delectable hi-tea spread for all to savour, as each child received meticulously packed boxes of delightful goodies and refreshments, enhancing their evening's enjoyment.

The annual cake-mixing ceremony at Courtyard by Marriott Chennai, hosted at the heartwarming setting of Rising Star Outreach of India, transcends mere festive tradition. It serves as a poignant reminder of the power of collective joy and giving. Beyond the delightful fusion of ingredients, this event holds profound significance as it brings together the Marriott team and the children of Rising Star in a celebration that goes beyond cultural boundaries. It symbolizes the spirit of compassion and inclusivity, underlining the importance of nurturing strong bonds within the community. GRT Hotels & Resorts took a significant step toward inclusivity this World Braille Day, launching an initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility for individuals with visual impairments. With the initiative rolled out across most of the group's 22 properties, the hospitality brand reaffirms its commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all guests.

The cornerstone of this initiative was the introduction of Braille menus at all of GRT Hotels & Resorts' all-day dining restaurants, including those at Grand by GRT Hotels, Regency by GRT Hotels, Radisson GRT Hotels, and GReaT Trails by GRT Hotels. This move ensures a more accessible and personalized dining experience for guests with visual disabilities.

To commemorate the occasion, GRT Hotels & Resorts hosted special events at two of its flagship properties—Grand Chennai by GRT and Radisson Blu Hotel & Suites GRT Chennai. During these events, visually impaired guests were invited to enjoy a curated lunch and experience the newly launched Braille menus firsthand. Additionally, other properties collaborated with local NGOs to host similar events, bringing together the community and raising awareness about accessibility in hospitality.
