According to the  National Database for Accommodation Units, Kerala has the highest number of 5-star hotels (46 hotels), beating Maharastra (40 hotels) and Delhi (30 hotels). Shruti Shibulal, CEO and Director of Tamara Leisure says that due to the rise of luxurious hotels in Kerala, tourism and hospitality will see a definite boom in the future, and it looks bright for Kerala.

PB Nooh, the director of Kerala tourism, said that though the government played a vital role in building the amenities and infrastructure to help the state boost its hospitality sector, the private players invested in the hospitality sector in the state to make Kerala one of the sought after place for luxury guest experience.

Despite being a small country in terms of size, Kerala has paved its way into the tourism industry due to its rich heritage and amenities that it offers for its tourists. In March 2023, Kochi has seen a footfall of 3.29% of tourist arrivals in India. Due to its higher traffic of foreign tourists, one might wonder whether the state has all the amenities for its tourists. This is where the state surprises, as it has a higher number of 3-star and four-star hotels.

Rahul Raj, the General Manager of Hyatt Regency Trivandrum, stated that the increased number of 5-star hotels in Kerala has boosted the state's portfolio in the hospitality sector. He added that it will also help the state create more career opportunities in the hospitality sector.

But how did the state achieve this incredible feet? Jose Pradeep, the honorary secretary of the Kerala Travel Mart Society, said that when the Oommen Chandy government 2014 imposed a liquor ban nationwide, only five-star hotels could receive bar licenses. He added that this has boosted the state to develop more 5-star hotels, and many 4-star hotels have converted to 5-star hotels to acquire bar licenses.

Kerala as a tourist place has received many significant national and international accolades, with the recent one from "New York Times" where Kerala has been listed in the list of "Top 52 places to go to in 2023". The state consists of lavish beaches, cuisines, lagoons, and a rich cultural heritage, which makes the state a "complete tourist package" for many visitors.
