We have carefully curated this newsletter to ensure it becomes your go-to resource for all things hospitality-related. Whether you are an industry professional, an avid traveller, or simply passionate about the art of hospitality, this newsletter will be your gateway to a world of inspiration, knowledge and unforgettable experiences.
In an age where environmental awareness has reached its zenith, industries worldwide are re-examining their operations to align with sustainable principles. The hospitality industry, renowned for its constant evolution, stands at a crucial juncture. Growing concerns about climate change and ecological sustainability underscore the pressing need for a green revolution in hospitality. This article delves into the imperative for sustainability in the hospitality sector and the potential benefits it brings to both the industry and the planet.
The hospitality industry, comprising hotels, restaurants, and travel services, has long been synonymous with luxury and opulence. However, the environmental toll of such indulgence is becoming increasingly apparent. Issues like excessive energy consumption, water wastage, and the carbon footprint associated with extensive supply chains are ecological concerns that demand immediate attention.
Sustainability in the hospitality industry is not merely a passing trend; it has become a necessity. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, they actively seek businesses that align with their values. A survey by Booking.com revealed that 87% of global travellers prefer sustainable travel. This shift in consumer behaviour serves as a clear signal to the industry that adopting sustainable practices is not only ethically right but also a smart business move.
To address the environmental impact, hotels and restaurants can implement various measures:
Energy Efficiency: Adopting energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting, smart HVAC systems, and renewable energy sources significantly reduces a hotel's carbon footprint.
Water Conservation: Implementing water-saving technologies, such as low-flow faucets and water recycling systems, helps minimize water consumption.
Waste Management: The adoption of comprehensive waste reduction and recycling programs significantly decreases the volume of waste generated by hotels and restaurants.
Local Sourcing: Supporting local farmers and businesses not only boosts the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting goods over long distances.
A successful shift toward sustainability necessitates active involvement from both staff and guests. Employee training programs can raise awareness about sustainable practices, encouraging the integration of eco-friendly habits into daily routines. Similarly, hotels can educate guests about sustainability initiatives, empowering them to make conscious choices during their stay.
Contrary to the belief that sustainability comes with a hefty price tag, many eco-friendly practices can result in long-term cost savings for businesses. Energy-efficient technologies often pay for themselves over time, and reducing waste can lead to lower disposal costs. Furthermore, the positive public image associated with sustainable practices can attract a growing market of environmentally conscious consumers.
In conclusion, the need for sustainability in the hospitality industry goes beyond meeting current consumer preferences; it represents an ethical responsibility and a strategic move for long-term success. As the industry adapts to the challenges of our time, embracing sustainability becomes not only a step toward environmental preservation but also a way to future-proof businesses in an increasingly eco-aware world. It's time for the hospitality industry to lead the charge in sustainable practices, setting an example for others and contributing to a more resilient and responsible future.

In the early hours of January 16, 2025, India proudly joined an exclusive club of spacefaring nations with ISRO’s successful execution of the SpaDeX docking experiment. This accomplishment, which involved the precise docking of two small satellites—SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target)—marks India as the fourth nation in the world to achieve this complex feat, following in the footsteps of the U.S., Russia, and China.
Launched on December 30, 2024, the SpaDeX mission was designed to demonstrate critical technology needed for spacecraft rendezvous, docking, and undocking using small satellites. ISRO’s Mission Operations Complex (MOX) in Bangalore oversaw the procedure, which included moving the satellites from a 15-meter hold point to a successful docking. Following the maneuver, ISRO confirmed the successful control of the two satellites as a single entity, with power transfer and undocking tests scheduled for the coming days.
The mission also serves as a critical building block for future space endeavors, including India’s plans for lunar exploration, astronaut missions to the Moon, and the development of the Indian Space Station. Additionally, the SpaDeX experiment demonstrates the transfer of electric power between docked spacecraft, a crucial step for in-space robotics, composite spacecraft control, and payload operations. ISRO's success with SpaDeX not only strengthens India’s position in the global space community but also sets the stage for future advancements in space technology.
Hospitalitynews is proud to witness and celebrate this remarkable achievement, marking another moment of national pride and technological advancement for India. This historic success enhances India's growing reputation in space exploration, and it is an inspiring achievement that paves the way for even greater milestones in the future.

These strategic offerings underscore Swiggy’s commitment to bolstering the food services ecosystem by addressing pivotal operational and growth challenges faced by restaurant partners.
Efficient operations begin with the right tools. Swiggy’s Kitchen Equipment Procurement Support connects small to mid-sized restaurant partners with reliable suppliers through the Swiggy Owner app. This initiative ensures access to high-quality equipment at fair pricing, helping restaurants optimize kitchen setups and elevate operational standards. By simplifying procurement, Swiggy aims to empower businesses to focus on what truly matters — delivering culinary excellence.
Adding another layer to its ‘Swiggy Seal’ hygiene program, Swiggy’s newly launched Hygiene Audit offers restaurant partners comprehensive insights into food quality and hygiene practices. Through collaborations with FSSAI-accredited agencies, audits are now accessible at discounted rates. This initiative evaluates critical areas such as facility design, operations, maintenance, sanitation, and training.
Moreover, educational webinars and expert guidance are available to support restaurants in maintaining impeccable hygiene standards. Swiggy’s holistic approach ensures that customers trust not just the taste but also the safety of their meals.
Understanding the power of visual appeal in online food ordering, Swiggy has introduced Professional Photoshoot Services. By offering high-quality imagery at pass-through rates via its app, Swiggy enables restaurants to showcase their dishes in the best light. The result? A potential 5x increase in orders, as studies show the direct correlation between visually appealing dishes and customer engagement.
During the pilot phase, hundreds of restaurants embraced this service, transforming their online presence and building stronger connections with customers.
These initiatives reflect Swiggy’s unwavering dedication to the growth and success of its restaurant partners. Speaking on the launch, Deepak Maloo, Head of Customer Experience & Restaurant Experience at Swiggy Food, shared, “Swiggy is committed to supporting its restaurant partners by providing them with vital resources and expertise. These newly launched initiatives address key challenges, be it improving sales through high-quality images, optimizing operations with better kitchen setups, or driving high food hygiene standards.”
Swiggy’s latest offerings are part of a larger framework of partner-focused programs, including Recruitment Support, Licensing Assistance, and Loan Services. Together, these initiatives reinforce Swiggy’s role as a true partner to restaurants, equipping them with the tools needed to succeed in an ever-evolving market.
In an industry where innovation and adaptability are key, Swiggy’s initiatives signal a brighter future for restaurant partners. With solutions that enhance efficiency, boost customer engagement, and ensure hygiene excellence, Swiggy is paving the way for restaurant partners to thrive, one kitchen, one meal, and one photograph at a time.
