In a vibrant spectacle that rivals the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kerala’s Champions Boat League (CBL) sets the backwaters ablaze with competition and camaraderie. It's not just cricket that can stir up sporting fever in India—the CBL is quickly becoming a game changer for Kerala’s image as a domestic tourism powerhouse.

Boosting Domestic Appeal with Competitive Rowing

Kerala, a state already renowned for its idyllic backwaters and lush landscapes, is charting a new course in tourism through its innovative Champions Boat League. With its inception mirroring the dynamic model of the IPL, the CBL has revved up Kerala's standing as an all-season destination, offering more than just the traditional tourist experience.

Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas voices his strategy for a tourism renaissance: “With the post-pandemic upswing in domestic travel, we’re harnessing the thrill of the CBL to captivate tourists nationwide. The league is an exhilarating addition to our diverse attractions and is key to our vision for elevating Kerala’s touristic appeal.”

A Surge in Tourism Post-Onam

Following the colorful burst of the Onam festival, which itself is a magnet for tourism, the CBL's third season sails with the winds of success, aiming to bolster domestic tourist numbers across Kerala's expanse. This league isn't just a sporting event; it's a cultural showcase, drawing visitors into the very heart of Kerala's community spirit.

Strategies to Attract Tourists

To capture the attention of domestic travelers, Kerala is unfurling a suite of initiatives, including industry networking through trade fairs and B2B meetings that have already sparked enthusiasm in cities like Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, and Pune. The upcoming roadshows in Surat and Rajkot further exemplify the state’s proactive approach to tourism.

Go Kerala: A Taste of the Local Experience

'Go Kerala' is an ingenious initiative, a specially curated familiarization trip for tour operators, offering them a firsthand experience of Kerala's new and timeless offerings. Shri K Biju, the Tourism Secretary, believes that such initiatives serve as the perfect showcase for Kerala's diversity, providing a window into the state's soul for potential tourists.

Experiencing Kerala’s Varied Touristic Wealth

The state's Tourism Director, Shri P B Noor, rounds off the campaign with a nod to Kerala’s rich tapestry of experiences—its houseboats, caravan stays, and adventure treks. These, paired with the perennial allure of its beaches and hill stations, weave a compelling narrative for visitors seeking both relaxation and excitement.
