Imagine a city transformed into an open-air art gallery, where the lines between sacred and secular blur, and where tradition and modernity coalesce in a colorful spectacle of art and celebration. This October, something magical is unfolding in Kolkata, and World Architecture Travel (WAT), alongside notable partners, is extending an exclusive invitation to witness it.

Every nook and cranny of Kolkata is about to burst into life, adored with over 3000 magnificent art installations celebrating Durga Puja, a festival that’s as much a visual feast as it is a sacred observance. However, amidst the multitude, 26 stand out for their innovation and grandeur. These masterpieces, each a unique blend of traditional artistry and contemporary flair, will be unveiled in a preview show, painting a narrative of the iconic festival that symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.

Brijesh Shaijal, the visionary behind WAT, believes that Durga Puja in Kolkata transcends its religious anchors, morphing into a captivating public art spectacle that sprawls across the entire city. The installations are not just an artistic expression but are emblematic of a rich tapestry of culture, history, and the indomitable spirit of Kolkata’s denizens.

So, what makes WAT’s initiative a must-experience event? It’s their bespoke architectural journeys, crafted meticulously, and led by connoisseurs of architecture and culture. In the world where travel is not just about visiting a place but immersing in its ethos, WAT, supported by the World Architecture Festival, is a beacon for architectural aficionados and curious souls alike.

The alliance with MassArt, UNESCO, and the British Council elevates this journey, blending the mystique of Durga Puja with an educational and enlightening exploration of architectural grandeur. Attendees will not just witness, but experience, the art installations, each narrating a tale of artistic splendor and cultural richness.

The exclusive platform WATconnect, is the bridge that connects the global audience to this splendid showcase. It’s not just about observing; it’s about engaging, connecting, and being a part of a narrative that’s as enchanting as the moonlit nights of October in Kolkata.

In essence, this isn’t just an invitation to witness art; it’s a call to experience a world where architecture, art, and culture dance to the rhythmic beats of Durga Puja. It’s an opportunity to see Kolkata not just with your eyes but to feel it pulsate with life, art, and celebration through every sense.

Join WAT in a journey where every step is a dance between the modern and the ancient, the sacred and the secular, and where every sight is a brushstroke in the grand, living painting of Kolkata during Durga Puja.

The Department of Tourism in Bhutan has unveiled a new initiative called the Druk Neykor programme, designed to enrich the travel experience by guiding visitors through 108 sacred sites and monuments across the enchanting Himalayan kingdom. Aimed at travellers looking to dive deep into Bhutan’s spiritual essence and cultural heritage, the programme promises an immersive exploration unlike any other.

Starting in the capital city, Thimphu, the Druk Neykor programme features tours to 16 standout sites, such as the revered Wangditse Lhakhang, Tshelung Ney, and Talangkha Drugyel Goenpa. These sites are not just about spirituality; they also offer a chance to enjoy Bhutan’s stunning natural landscapes, whether you’re reaching them by road or through scenic hikes. Plus, with a range of accommodations from hotels to campsites, comfort is guaranteed for every traveller.

What sets Druk Neykor apart is its innovative passport system. As you visit each site, you collect stamps in your Druk Neykor passport, each one telling a story of Bhutan’s spiritual journey and cultural immersion. This tangible record of your travels is not only a personal memento but also a gateway to learning more about each site through QR codes that offer detailed histories and stories.

The programme is accessible through authorised Bhutanese Tour Operators, but adventurous souls can also explore these sites independently. From the iconic Tiger's Nest monastery perched on a cliff to the serene Dochula Pass, each stamp collected is a step deeper into Bhutan’s spiritual heart.

Dorji Dhradhul, Director General of the Department of Tourism-Bhutan, captures the essence of the initiative: “Druk Neykor merges Bhutan’s spiritual legacy with its natural beauty, offering a profound journey of discovery. This marks a nearly 6 percent rise compared to the previous year, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

During the summer schedule, which runs from March 31 to October 26, airlines will operate from 125 airports across the country. Notably, this includes the introduction of new airports such as Azamgarh, Aligarh, and Chitrakoot.

Leading carriers like IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara are set to expand their operations, while SpiceJet plans a slight reduction in departures. Additionally, international connections will extend to 37 countries from 27 domestic airports, reflecting a 5.1 percent rise in weekly international flights.

Akasa Air's forthcoming international operations are anticipated to further enhance connectivity, subject to regulatory approvals.

With the increase in flight frequencies and expansion of airport networks, travelers can expect improved accessibility and convenience during the upcoming summer season. As the aviation industry adapts to evolving market dynamics, the focus remains on ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers across the country.
