In a bold move to protect the planet's most vital resource, Accor, a leading name in global hospitality, has unveiled a series of water conservation initiatives aimed at making significant strides in sustainability across its hotel operations. Mohamed Dabo reports on how Accor is not just changing the way hotels operate but also how guests can play a pivotal role in conserving water.

At the heart of Accor's sustainability drive is a clear focus on slashing water usage within its rooms and engaging guests in the conservation journey. With an eye on the significant water footprint of the food and beverage industry, Accor is stepping up its game to reduce food waste, which is responsible for over half of the waste produced by hotels.

An exciting partnership with BE WTR, a leader in sustainable water solutions, marks Accor's commitment to phasing out single-use plastic water bottles across its properties by the ambitious year of 2025. In place of disposable bottles, Accor hotels will offer guests stylish, refillable glass bottles, setting a new standard for eco-friendly hydration.

But Accor's vision goes beyond in-house operations. The "Skip the Clean" initiative stands as a testament to the power of guest participation. By opting out of daily room cleaning, guests can not only conserve water and energy but also earn loyalty points, showcasing a win-win for both the environment and hotel patrons. This initiative alone has the potential to save an equivalent of 6,500 showers per year for an average hotel, underlining the significant impact of collective action.

Underlining its broader commitment to environmental stewardship, Accor has joined forces with the CEO Water Mandate, a United Nations initiative focused on advancing water stewardship. By aligning with such global coalitions, Accor aims to foster shared solutions to the pressing environmental and social challenges facing our planet.

As Accor forges ahead with its water conservation efforts, the company sets a shining example of how the hospitality industry can lead the charge in sustainable practices. Through innovative partnerships, guest empowerment, and a commitment to global initiatives, Accor is not just saving water; it's inspiring a wave of change for a more sustainable future.
