Air India Express has rolled out new uniforms for its cabin crew and frontline staff across its network, introducing a refreshed look for the teams who welcome, assist and engage with guests every day. The new uniforms were launched from 1 September and are being introduced across cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations teams.
The refreshed uniforms extend Air India Express’ Tales of India initiative beyond its aircraft and into everyday guest interactions. The airline’s aircraft tail art under the initiative draws inspiration from India’s indigenous art forms, crafts and cultural heritage. The same cultural inspiration has been carried into the new uniforms through design elements influenced by Tamil Nadu’s Kanjeevaram, Himachal Pradesh’s Pattu, Gujarat’s Patola, Assam’s Gamosa and Madhya Pradesh’s Bagh. The designs combine Indian cultural influences with contemporary silhouettes inspired by the traditional kurti. Tailored jackets, scarves and pocket squares further bring together traditional sensibilities with modern design.
Sunil Suresh, Head, Marketing, E-Commerce & Loyalty, Air India Group, said, “Our frontline teams shape some of the most memorable moments in every guest’s journey, and these new uniforms are designed to reflect their energy, professionalism and warmth.”
He added that the uniforms represent the airline’s evolution while creating a consistent experience across its aircraft, airports and onboard services, while remaining rooted in the warmth and vibrance associated with Air India Express.
The uniforms are anchored in the airline’s Xpress Blue colour palette and accented with its signature Xpress Orange, creating a visual connection with the brand and its guest experience. The colour combination is designed to reflect the airline’s energetic personality while maintaining a cohesive look across different guest touchpoints.
A key feature of the project is that the uniforms were designed in-house by Pooja Krishnan, Air India Express designer, bringing an insider’s understanding of the requirements of frontline airline operations. Pooja led the design of the uniforms for female cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations personnel. The men’s cabin crew uniform was developed in collaboration with Trent Limited.
The uniforms are crafted using banana crepe fabric, selected to meet the practical requirements of airline operations. The material offers comfort, breathability, durability and an elegant drape, allowing frontline teams to carry out their roles comfortably while maintaining a polished appearance. With the new uniforms, Air India Express aims to strengthen the connection between its evolving brand identity, Indian cultural influences and the everyday guest experience across its network.
