Another Place is set to relaunch The Machrie Hotel on Islay as Another Place, The Machrie on August 1. This will be the second hotel in the Another Place collection, joining their existing property in Cumbria, The Lake.

The relaunched hotel will introduce several new features and experiences for guests. A new outdoor wellness space will offer a sauna, two large wood-fired hot tubs, a cold plunge bath, a terrace, and a firepit, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Judi Blakeburn, Chief Commercial Officer of Another Place, expressed her enthusiasm: “We’re so excited to welcome The Machrie into the Another Place collection. Ever since our successful pop-up last summer, we fell in love with the hotel, its spectacular setting, incredible history and calibre of its championship golf links, and everything Islay has to offer. Another Place is all about introducing our guests to memorable experiences in wild and elemental settings – and Islay offers these in spades.

The hotel will offer various activities such as wild swimming, fatbiking along the beach with a fleet of fatbikes available for guests, wildlife boat trips, and wilderness hikes.

Golf enthusiasts will appreciate the new "social golf" putting green called The Hebrides. This green mirrors the original 1891 Machrie course at one-tenth the size and features twilight illumination and glow-in-the-dark balls. This complements the existing championship links course redesigned by DJ Russell in 2018.

The Machrie will enhance its food and beverage offerings with a more relaxed dining experience in the Courtyard and downstairs lounge. Menu highlights include Islay venison burgers, Loch Gruinart oysters, steak frites, and lobster mac 'n' cheese, alongside the existing 18 Restaurant & Bar.

Accommodation options have been expanded to include 10 family rooms with sofa and chair beds for children. The lodges, each with two bedrooms, can accommodate families of five or six. Accessible rooms with first-floor and direct garden access are also available, and there are now more dog-friendly rooms and spaces around the hotel.

Later this summer, the hotel will also launch a new games room a few steps from the main building, featuring a pool table, table football, table tennis, and a croquet lawn just outside.

Another Place, The Machrie, will open on August 1, 2024.
