As the Union Budget 2025 nears, Mateen Khan, Co-Founder of Monday Hotels, highlights its significance for India's hospitality sector, a vital contributor to the nation's economy. He underscores the need for sustainability to take precedence, positioning it as a cornerstone for growth. "India has the potential to lead the global hospitality industry by embracing innovative and sustainable practices," he notes.
Key recommendations include reducing GST rates to make hotel stays and dining more affordable, revising tax policies to attract a diverse range of guests, and prioritizing the development of hotels in experiential destinations and lesser-known regions. These steps, according to Mr. Khan, would broaden the industry's appeal and stimulate growth.
Sustainability also features prominently in his vision, with a call for incentives promoting green infrastructure and technology. From solar energy to water recycling systems and IoT smart meters, these measures would enhance environmental responsibility while cutting operational costs.
Addressing the post-COVID skills gap, Mr. Khan advocates for government collaboration with hospitality institutions to simplify regulatory processes and foster training programs. "These initiatives will create a skilled workforce, strengthen the sector, and elevate India's global standing," he emphasizes.
At Monday Hotels, guided by their tagline, "We Value You!", the focus remains on leveraging these opportunities to drive sustainable growth. "With the right policies, India can build a more competitive and eco-conscious hospitality industry that benefits both the nation and the planet," Mr. Khan concludes.
