Burma Burma Restaurant and Tea Room, a restaurant chain based in Mumbai, has raised $2 million (approximately INR 16.8 crore) in funding from various family offices, including its existing investor, Negen Capital. The newly secured funds will be used to significantly expand the chain's presence across India by tripling the number of its outlets over the next three years.

Ankit Gupta, the founder of Burma Burma, stated that the company plans to deepen its footprint in existing markets such as Bengaluru, NCR, and Mumbai, while also entering new cities like Chennai, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. The expansion is part of a broader growth strategy for the chain, which has already doubled its footprint over the past year.

Founded in 2014 by Ankit Gupta and Chirag Chhajer, Burma Burma specializes in Burmese cuisine and currently operates 13 restaurants and delivery kitchens in major cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The restaurant chain has shown promising growth, with its EBITDA reaching over 13% in July, and the company is targeting an EBITDA of over 15% by FY25.

This latest funding round follows a previous $2 million seed round in November 2022, which was also led by Negen Capital, with additional participation from Bbigplas Poly and other angel investors.

The investment in Burma Burma comes at a time when the Indian food service market is experiencing rapid growth. According to Mordor Intelligence, the market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 10%, reaching $125.06 billion by 2029, up from the current $77.54 billion. This growth has led to a surge in investments in the restaurant sector, with other chains like Charcoal Eats and BIGGUYS also securing significant funding in recent months.
