This festive season, Crowne Plaza New Delhi Mayur Vihar has brought a unique blend of tradition and modernity with the unveiling of Charkha: The Tree of Tomorrow. Standing tall at 10 feet, this sustainable Christmas tree is a powerful symbol of holiday joy, community empowerment, and environmental consciousness.
Crafted in collaboration with Vikara, a project under the Khadi India initiative, the tree’s fabric was created by five skilled artisans from Dehradun using traditional Khadi weaving techniques. The intricate design incorporates natural dyes, each representing a deeper connection to nature—Madder red for empowerment, Marigold yellow for hope, Turmeric gold for vitality, Onion Peel brown for nature’s nurturing touch, and Cutch for resilience.
Charkha: The Tree of Tomorrow is more than a decoration; it embodies the Swadeshi movement's timeless spirit and aligns with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow program, promoting sustainability and thoughtful choices. This eco-friendly masterpiece is adorned with upcycled decorations, making it a beacon of sustainable living and a celebration of India’s rich craftsmanship.
Accompanying the unveiling were festive activities that added to the joy. Families enjoyed a magical Santa Meet & Greet, a heartwarming Christmas Choir by children from Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Noida Extension, and a Gingerbread House showcase crafted by Crowne Plaza’s talented chefs.
Pankaj Gupta, Area General Manager, IHG Southwest Asia, shared: "This season, we’re not just celebrating; we’re inspiring change. Our tree, crafted by local artisans, reflects sustainability, community, and responsible living. It’s more than a festive symbol—it’s a call to action, urging everyone to embrace the shared responsibility of creating a better future. Sustainability is woven into every decision we make, and this tree stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to doing business the right way."
Mansi Ranghar, Founder of Vikara, added: "Through Khadi weaving and natural dyes, we’ve created a tree that celebrates heritage and pushes for sustainability. Each thread tells a story of conscious choices, blending tradition with a vision for a greener tomorrow."
This unique initiative by Crowne Plaza Mayur Vihar celebrates the holidays while inspiring thoughtful and impactful actions for a brighter, more sustainable future.
