In a significant move to promote sustainable tourism and green investments, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced plans to introduce electric vehicle (EV) services exclusively at major tourist destinations across the state. This initiative aims to create a cleaner and more environmentally friendly atmosphere for visitors.

Speaking on the occasion of World Tourism Day at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Gorakhpur, CM Yogi highlighted the state's commitment to enhancing the tourism sector by integrating green technologies. Under the theme of "Tourism and Green Investment," the Chief Minister stressed the need for eco-friendly practices in the tourism industry.

Efforts will be made to phase out traditional diesel and petrol vehicles at key tourist spots, replacing them with electric buses and e-rickshaws. Private operators will be encouraged to participate in this green tourism endeavour. The shift towards electric vehicles aligns with Uttar Pradesh's vision for sustainable tourism and a healthier environment.

CM Yogi also emphasised the importance of creating tourist destinations that rely on renewable energy sources such as solar lighting instead of generators. He encouraged the development of a serene and uplifting ambiance at these destinations. The Chief Minister acknowledged the significance of tourism in Uttar Pradesh, which offers diverse experiences, including religious and entertainment tourism. Over the past year, more than 30 crore tourists visited various holy sites in the state, driving economic growth and employment opportunities in associated sectors.

In addition to promoting green transportation, CM Yogi called for improved cleanliness and beauty maintenance at tourist destinations. He urged both locals and visitors to refrain from littering and disposing of plastic items, emphasising the collective responsibility of keeping these places pristine.

To enhance the tourist experience, the Chief Minister proposed multilingual signage at these destinations, catering to the languages commonly spoken by tourists. He also suggested training local youth as guides with proficiency in languages relevant to the state's international visitors.

Furthermore, CM Yogi encouraged the development of employment opportunities through home stays in the tourism sector and the creation of businesses focused on crafting incense sticks, perfumes, and incense from temple-offered flowers, with waste materials repurposed for composting. This green initiative not only aligns with global efforts to combat climate change but also positions Uttar Pradesh as a forward-thinking destination committed to providing visitors with a cleaner and more sustainable travel experience.

As Uttar Pradesh continues to invest in its tourism infrastructure and prioritise environmental sustainability, it is poised to become a model for green tourism in India.
