IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Hotel Indigo Satu Mare, marking the lifestyle brand's debut in Romania and further strengthening its presence in Eastern Europe. The hotel, located in Satu Mare's renowned Art Nouveau building, will offer an upscale boutique design that celebrates the local culture and provides a gateway to explore the area.
Satu Mare, situated in Romania's northern borderlands, is known for its picturesque landscapes, ancient architecture, and convenient rail links. The Old Town exudes a charming village-like atmosphere and boasts archaeological heritage dating back to the Bronze and Middle Ages. The hotel's façade, with architecture dating back to 1902, is a distinctive feature of the city's skyline.
Expected to open in 2025, Hotel Indigo Satu Mare joins IHG's existing properties in Romania, including Intercontinental Athénée Palace Bucharest, Crowne Plaza Bucharest, and Holiday Inn Bucharest-Times. This new signing exemplifies IHG's commitment to expanding its presence in emerging markets and driving growth in Europe.
Featuring 62 design-led rooms and suites, Hotel Indigo Satu Mare will offer a locally inspired restaurant, a stylish cocktail bar, and a spa. The hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with Dacia SRL, a subsidiary of Manevi ZRT, and will be managed by Hotel & More, a Hungarian hotel operator with extensive experience in the region.
Willemijn Geels, VP of Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed excitement about entering the Romanian market and redeveloping one of the country's most iconic hotels. The partnership between IHG and Hotel Indigo Satu Mare is expected to pave the way for further development opportunities in Romania.
The collaboration with IHG was also praised by Orsolya Pacsay-Tomassich, Director General of the Foundation for Preserving Built Heritage in Central Europe, who highlighted the alignment between the hotel's appreciation for unique neighbourhood details and the rich history of the building. Balazs Klemm, CEO of Hotel & More Holding, shared the excitement of operating the first Hotel Indigo property in Romania and expressed confidence in delivering exceptional experiences for guests visiting Satu Mare.
