Day one at Wonderla Chennai received a huge response from the public, even as the city continued to face heavy rains caused by Cyclone Ditwah for the past few days. The park opened its services to visitors yesterday, and people from across Chennai and different parts of Tamil Nadu arrived to enjoy the rides despite the wet conditions.

However, the severe rain led to power outages inside Wonderla Chennai, resulting in technical glitches during the first day of operations. This caused delays and inconvenience for many visitors. Visuals from the park quickly spread across social media, showing long queues and people waiting for the rides due to the interruptions caused by the weather and outages.

Over the past few days, social media had shown a high level of excitement around the park’s opening. Wonderla Chennai has been widely discussed because of its standout attractions, including India’s first B&M inverted roller coaster, one of India’s first high-G force spin rides, and India’s first mythology-themed monorail adventure. These features added to the anticipation among the public.

Responding to the issue, Mr Arun Chittilapilly, Managing Director of Wonderla Holidays Limited, apologised for the inconvenience caused due to the cyclone’s impact and power outages. He shared that nearly 2000 visitors were present on the first day of Wonderla Chennai. He added, “Thank you Chennai for that overwhelming response on our first day! We had almost 2000 visitors yesterday! We did experience a lot of power outages due to the cyclone and sorry that caused delays for our guests. But I can assure you that our rides were safe and we will further strengthen our processes to reduce such delays. If you had issues pls reach out to our page and we will make it right. Thanks again for the love!”

His immediate response received positive reactions on social media, with many appreciating the transparency and the quick communication from the Wonderla team. The earlier video of Mr Arun Chittilapilly personally testing the rides at Wonderla Chennai had also gone viral, further strengthening public trust in the safety measures at the park.

Wonderla Chennai is the largest among all Wonderla amusement parks, which include Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar. It was inaugurated recently and features 43 world-class land and water rides, making it a major addition to Chennai’s entertainment and tourism scene.
