India Becomes a She-Planned Nation as Women Lead 7 in 10 Trip Decisions: Thrillophilia Report

Thrillophilia has released its Women & Travel Decisions 2025 report, and the findings point to a strong shift inside Indian homes. Women are now at the centre of India’s leisure travel decisions, quietly driving 72% of trip planning across the country. The study is based on 212,000 itineraries and 8.9 million planning signals, showing how women are choosing destinations, curating experiences, handling budgets, and shaping how the entire family travels.

The report highlights that women prefer to plan early, compare more carefully, and double-check before confirming anything. On average, they book nine days earlier than men, which helps keep prices steady, prevent last-minute changes, and brings cancellations down by 18%. They also spend more time reading reviews, checking photos, and sharing itineraries within family and friend groups to make sure every detail is right. Still, even though women lead the planning, 62% of payments on women-planned couple trips are made by men.

Thrillophilia’s data also shows a clear theme in women’s choices: a smart luxury approach. This doesn’t mean flashy spending, but thoughtful indulgence, boutique stays, spa sessions, wellness walks, and slow mornings. Women add 28% more premium upgrades to their carts, yet their total spending stays only 6% higher than men’s. It’s not overspending; it’s making sharper choices.

Safety remains a major focus. Women apply more than three times the number of safety filters, resulting in fewer travel emergencies and a 23% drop in SOS calls. Their deeper research directly leads to smoother trips.

Chitra Gurnani Daga, Co-founder, Thrillophilia, said, "Indian leisure is increasingly a She-Planner economy. Women are curating smarter itineraries, earlier bookings, safety-first choices, and meaningful upgrades without blowing the budget. As women continue to lead India's travel decisions, the industry is shifting toward more thoughtful planning, better value choices, and deeply curated experiences."

For domestic trips, women prefer easy-paced and high-value destinations such as Rajasthan and Kerala, with Goa following closely. Internationally, they lean towards places that mix value and comfort  Bali, Dubai-Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Women travelling with kids and families tend to favour slow mornings, one main activity for the day, and early dinners. This planning style leads to 7% fewer reschedules, keeping trips smoother and more predictable.

Tier 2 India is showing the strongest rise in women planners. Cities like Indore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Jaipur are rapidly emerging, with Indore alone growing 31% YoY. With this rise, the She-Planner trend is set to shape not just travel choices but a growing ecosystem built around women-led planning.

Viceroy Hotels Limited, a Hyderabad-based hospitality company, is set to acquire SLN Terminus Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd., the owner of Marriott Executive Apartments, Hyderabad, for a total consideration of ₹206 crore. The property operates under the Marriott brand and is located at SLN Terminus in Gachibowli, one of Hyderabad’s prominent business and IT corridors.

In a regulatory filing, the company confirmed that its shareholders have approved the acquisition of SLN Terminus Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd. at an Extra-Ordinary General Meeting. The proposed acquisition is seen as a strategic step in strengthening Viceroy Hotels’ premium hospitality portfolio and deepening its presence in high-growth urban markets.

According to company information, a senior executive involved in the discussions indicated that the acquisition aligns with Viceroy Hotels’ long-term plans for asset consolidation and sustained growth. The company has outlined an ambition to expand its portfolio to 1,000 keys by 2030, supported by its current inventory of around 470 keys and the planned addition of approximately 200 keys through an upcoming greenfield project in Hyderabad.

The transaction structure reflects a comprehensive integration approach. Of the total consideration, around ₹105.66 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, ₹40.67 crore towards the settlement of inter-corporate loans, and ₹59.67 crore for the purchase of equity shares. Upon completion of due diligence and the necessary approvals, SLN Terminus Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd. is expected to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Viceroy Hotels Limited.

Marriott Executive Apartments, Hyderabad, comprises 75 executive rooms spread across nearly 1.65 lakh square feet, along with ample parking facilities and an undivided land share of over 2,400 square yards. Financially, SLN Terminus has reported steady performance, with strong turnover, healthy profit after tax, and a solid net worth, backed by consistent revenue growth over the past three years.

The evaluation of this acquisition comes at a time when the Indian hospitality sector is witnessing a strong recovery, marked by rising occupancies in premium hotels and steady revenue growth despite supply constraints. Industry projections also point to robust long-term potential, with India’s tourism and hospitality market expected to see significant expansion, driven by increasing domestic travel, improved connectivity, and sustained investment activity.

Kaziranga National Park has marked a major milestone in its tourism journey, recording the highest-ever number of foreign tourists in a single tourism calendar. The park has seen a sharp rise in overall visitors, with foreign tourist numbers tripling over the last two years, pointing to a strong and positive trend in global interest.

In the first three months of the ongoing tourist season, Kaziranga witnessed a remarkable influx of visitors, with over 1.46 lakh tourists exploring the park. This included 1.39 lakh Indian visitors and 6,699 foreign nationals, making it the highest foreign tourist count ever recorded at the park during this period.

Officials from the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) highlighted that the surge reflects sustained efforts to position the park on the global tourism map. “The highest-ever influx of foreign tourists to Kaziranga is a resounding testament to state govt’s visionary efforts in elevating it to a global status.,” said KNPTR director Sonali Ghosh. She further added, “The number of foreign tourists in Kaziranga has tripled in the last two years, indicating a very positive trend. It recorded the highest ever number of foreign tourists visiting the park in a tourism calendar within the first three months of the season.”

The growing presence of international travellers has also contributed positively to the park’s revenue and strengthened the local economy. Hoteliers and tourism stakeholders in Kaziranga have reported improved business, with many properties seeing high occupancy levels during the peak season.

Sharing insights from the hospitality sector, Secretary of the Kaziranga Hotel and Resort Association, Pankaj Gogoi, said, “The flow of tourists in Kaziranga has gone up noticeably this year. PM Narendra Modi’s Kaziranga visit last year definitely had a positive impact on tourists, and a decrease in rhino poaching incidents has also sent a positive message about the park to people around the world.”

Kaziranga’s rising popularity among foreign travellers reflects its strong conservation efforts, improved visibility, and growing confidence in its wildlife protection measures. As interest continues to build, the park stands out as one of India’s most sought-after wildlife destinations, drawing visitors from across the globe while supporting sustainable tourism and local livelihoods.
