G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), extended an invitation to US businesses and companies to invest in India's vibrant and diverse tourism sector. During his visit to New York, Reddy addressed a community reception at the Consulate General of India, where he highlighted India's economic growth, Make in India initiatives, and various measures taken to boost industries, including tourism, across the country.
Reddy emphasized the government's creation of an enabling environment through policies and regulations and assured US investors of a wholehearted welcome and support from the government and his ministry. He urged the Indian diaspora to promote tourism in India by encouraging non-Indian families, friends, and communities to explore and invest in the country's wide range of offerings, including culture, cruise, craft, film tourism, festivals, weddings, wildlife, and adventure, rural, and spiritual tourism.
“In the coming decade, North East will witness a tremendous rise in tourists and tourism, people from all over will want to visit the North East. That will be the situation in the next ten years,” Reddy said. He also mentioned India's G20 Presidency, which has provided opportunities for delegates and officials from G20 nations to experience India's rich cultural heritage and tourism landmarks.
Reddy underscored India's commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future, technological transformation, digital public infrastructure, and women-led development within the context of its G20 Presidency. He noted that India's tourism and hospitality industry is one of the largest employment-generating sectors in the country, and the government has adopted a whole-of-government approach to support its growth. Despite global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and turmoil in neighbouring countries, Reddy highlighted India's stability and growth.
Radha Katyal Narang, Director (G20) at the Ministry of Tourism, also delivered a detailed presentation on India's tourism industry during the event at the Consulate General of India in New York.
