IndiGo Ventures has made a strategic equity investment of Rs 10 crore in Sarla Aviation, marking an early step toward building India’s first nationwide air taxi network.
The investment, which was part of Sarla Aviation’s previous funding round led by Accel and Nikhil Kamath, signals a deeper alignment between aircraft manufacturing and airline operations in India’s emerging urban air mobility space.
The partnership aims to address a long-standing gap in India’s mobility ecosystem, the middle-distance segment. While short-distance travel is handled by road and metro systems and long-distance routes by railways and airlines, journeys in the 30–300 km range remain inefficient and time-consuming.
Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft are being positioned as a solution to this gap. These aircraft are designed to operate quietly, without the need for runways, and at lower costs compared to helicopters, potentially transforming how people move across cities and nearby regions.
Sarla Aviation brings the hardware capability to the partnership, with a hybrid-electric eVTOL platform tailored for Indian conditions. The company has built one of India’s largest private eVTOL demonstrators and is backed by a team with experience across global players such as Lilium, Volocopter, Beta Technologies, and Joby Aviation.
On the other hand, IndiGo contributes operational scale and infrastructure. As India’s largest airline, it operates over 2,000 daily flights across more than 85 airports, offering a strong backbone for future commercial deployment, along with maintenance, distribution, and safety expertise.
The company said the investment goes beyond funding, representing a strategic move to create an aligned OEM-operator ecosystem, something that has not yet existed in India at this scale. Globally, similar models have been seen with airlines like United Airlines investing in Archer Aviation, Delta Air Lines backing Joby Aviation, and American Airlines partnering with Vertical Aerospace.
Adrian Schmidt, Co-founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation, said the partnership marks a turning point for India’s mobility future. He noted that IndiGo’s backing adds credibility and scale to the vision of making air mobility more accessible and efficient for everyday use.
Founded in 2023 by Rakesh Gaonkar and Adrian Schmidt, Sarla Aviation is headquartered in Bengaluru and is named after Sarla Thukral. The company is focused on building advanced aircraft systems for intra- and inter-city travel.
Its flagship programme includes a six-seater electric flying taxi designed to significantly reduce travel time in congested urban centres such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune. The aircraft is being developed with a focus on safety, affordability, and ease of use, with the aim of making air mobility as seamless as app-based ride-hailing services.
As India looks to address growing congestion, rising demand density, and evolving transportation needs, this collaboration could play a key role in shaping the next phase of aviation-led mobility in the country.

Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of a 50-key Cozzet hotel at Ringas near Khatu Shyam in Rajasthan, strengthening its presence in the state and expanding its premium economy portfolio across India's growing pilgrimage and regional travel markets.
The upcoming Cozzet Khatu Shyam will be located approximately 18 km from Khatu Shyam Ji Temple, one of Rajasthan's major pilgrimage destinations. The shrine recorded an estimated annual footfall of 2.54 crore devotees in 2025, making it the state's leading religious tourism destination and driving increased demand for organised accommodation and supporting hospitality infrastructure along the Khatu Shyam-Ringas corridor.
The hotel will benefit from its strategic location in Ringas, positioned just 100 metres from Ringas railway station and with direct access to NH-52, which connects the area with Jaipur and other parts of the region. The location is expected to make the property accessible to pilgrims, families, leisure travellers and transit guests.
A brownfield development, Cozzet Khatu Shyam is expected to open in mid-2027. The property will feature 50 contemporary rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, health club and swimming pool.
The hotel will also cater to the local social and events market through a 2,500 sq. ft. banquet venue capable of accommodating approximately 180–200 guests. The combination of accommodation, dining, wellness and event facilities is expected to position the property as a comprehensive hospitality offering for visitors to the destination.
Commenting on the signing, Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, said pilgrimage travel is emerging as an important driver of hospitality demand across India. He added that destinations attracting millions of visitors require dependable branded accommodation and consistent service standards, making Ringas a strong opportunity for Cozzet.
Cozzet by Cygnett is Cygnett Hotels & Resorts' premium economy and micro-hospitality brand. Built around its "Smart, Safe & Sensible" philosophy, the brand focuses on contemporary accommodation, essential amenities and efficient service for business, leisure and transit travellers.
The signing also advances Cygnett's broader expansion strategy for Cozzet. The brand currently has a development pipeline of approximately 600 keys, with properties under development and in pre-opening stages across destinations including Noida, Ayodhya, Amritsar, Jaipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Cygnett plans to continue expanding Cozzet through an asset-light and scalable model, targeting pilgrimage centres, transit hubs, business markets and emerging urban destinations where demand for reliable, value-led branded accommodation is increasing.
With its entry into the Khatu Shyam-Ringas corridor, Cozzet adds another pilgrimage-led destination to its growing development pipeline while strengthening Cygnett's Rajasthan portfolio.

Sterling Holiday Resorts has strengthened its presence in India's wildlife hospitality segment with the launch of Sterling Quinta Jim Corbett, its second resort in the Corbett landscape and 11th property in Uttarakhand.
Located in the Bail Parao–Kaladhungi belt of Ramnagar, the new resort expands Sterling's curated wildlife portfolio to 13 resorts with more than 480 rooms and suites, reinforcing the company's strategy of building destination clusters across India's leading nature and wildlife destinations.
The launch comes as wildlife tourism increasingly evolves beyond conventional safari-led holidays, with travellers seeking immersive experiences, longer stays and deeper connections with nature and local communities. Sterling's growing portfolio across India's forests and wildlife regions reflects this shift towards experience-led travel.
Sterling Quinta Jim Corbett offers access to the wider Corbett landscape while providing a quieter alternative to some of the destination's busier tourism zones. The property complements Sterling's existing Corbett presence and gives travellers additional opportunities to explore different areas of the region.
The resort features 46 rooms across five categories, including accommodation options with private sit-outs, balconies and exclusive plunge pools. Facilities include a swimming pool, spa and Nectar, the property's all-day dining restaurant.
Designed for families, couples, celebration-led travellers and corporate groups, the resort also expands Sterling's leisure and events offering. A 2,800 sq. ft. banquet hall and two landscaped lawns provide spaces for destination weddings, social celebrations, corporate offsites and incentive programmes.
Beyond the resort, guests can explore the Corbett region through safaris across forest zones including Phato and Sitabani, along with birdwatching trails and plantation walks. Local attractions such as Chhoi Village, Shri Hanuman Dham, the Jim Corbett Museum and Corbett Falls further broaden the destination experience.
Sterling's wider wildlife portfolio now spans diverse ecosystems and destinations including Corbett, Gir, Kanha, Pench, Ranthambore, Sariska, Thekkady, Wayanad, Anaikatti and Tipeshwar, covering tiger reserves, lion habitats, rainforests and Himalayan forests.
Commenting on the launch, Vikram Lalvani, Managing Director & CEO, Sterling Holiday Resorts Ltd, said wildlife tourism in India is undergoing a transformation as travellers increasingly seek experiences extending beyond the safari. He added that Sterling's destination-cluster strategy aims to provide guests with richer ways to experience iconic wildlife regions while maintaining consistency in hospitality.
Shailendra Goswami and Amit Aggarwal, Partners at Shreena Hospitalities Pvt Limited, said Sterling Quinta Jim Corbett was envisioned as a peaceful, nature-connected retreat complementing the wider Corbett experience. They added that the partnership combines the resort's location and design with Sterling's hospitality expertise and scale.
With the addition of Sterling Quinta Jim Corbett, Sterling Holiday Resorts continues to strengthen its presence in Uttarakhand while expanding its focus on experiential travel segments including wildlife, mountains, wellness, pilgrimage and heritage
