SWISS has launched its first flight from Zurich to Bengaluru, marking the airline's entry into one of India's leading technology and business hubs. Flight LX140 departed Zurich for Bengaluru, introducing five weekly nonstop services between Switzerland and southern India.
The new route is expected to create more travel opportunities for business travellers, people visiting family and friends, and tourists exploring southern India. It also strengthens connections between Switzerland and Bengaluru, a major centre for technology, innovation and business.
With Bengaluru joining Delhi and Mumbai, the city becomes SWISS's third destination in India. The new service is part of the airline's efforts to expand its long-haul network while improving Switzerland's international connectivity.
Commenting on the inaugural flight, SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger said, “With Bengaluru, we are launching more than just a new flight route. We are creating new opportunities for our guests, for Swiss companies, and for Switzerland as a business location. India is a market with enormous potential, and Bengaluru is one of Asia's leading technology and innovation hubs. Alongside Delhi and Mumbai, Bengaluru is our third destination in India. We are making a targeted investment in the growth of our long-haul network while also strengthening Switzerland's international connectivity. In an increasingly interconnected world, personal encounters and direct exchanges are more important than ever.”
The launch reflects the growing importance of direct international connections for business, tourism and personal travel. By adding Bengaluru to its network, SWISS aims to serve demand between Switzerland and southern India while providing travellers with a direct link between Zurich and the city.
The five-weekly service also gives travellers more options when planning trips between the two destinations, supporting business exchanges and leisure travel as connections between India and Switzerland continue to develop.

Villa Vie Residences promised something beyond a conventional cruise holiday: the opportunity to make a ship a permanent home while travelling around the world. But the suspension of its residential cruise ship, Villa Vie Odyssey, in Cambodia has exposed the financial and operational challenges behind that proposition, leaving nearly 400 residents facing uncertainty over their accommodation and investments.
The concept was built around selling cabins priced between US$119,999 and US$439,999. Residents were promised access to a global itinerary covering more than 400 ports, with the ship expected to complete a circumnavigation approximately every three-and-a-half years. For buyers, this was a long-term lifestyle commitment rather than a temporary holiday purchase.
However, the business faced difficulties before the ship even began sailing. Originally scheduled to depart Belfast in May 2024, the launch was delayed by mechanical problems, including issues with its rudder. Preparing the ageing vessel for service reportedly cost an additional US$15 million. Following its launch, some residents also raised concerns about accommodation and onboard facilities.
The financial pressure intensified in 2026 as fuel costs increased. Founder and Executive Chairman Mikael Petterson said marine gas oil, which typically cost the company around US$600–700 per metric tonne, rose to nearly US$2,000 in Singapore and approximately US$2,200 in Cambodia.
For a residential cruise operator, fuel is not an occasional expense. It is a recurring operational requirement that directly affects the cost of keeping the business running. Unlike larger cruise companies, Villa Vie had limited financial capacity to absorb sharp increases or hedge against fuel-price volatility.
The company reportedly sought financial support from residents through loans carrying interest rates of 12% to 24%. Concerns among some residents led to cabin resales, making it more difficult to attract new buyers. A proposed investment deal also collapsed, further weakening the company's ability to sustain normal operations. Residents were reportedly given only eight hours to disembark after the suspension announcement.
Villa Vie's situation raises a broader question: how sustainable are hospitality concepts that depend heavily on upfront customer payments but carry substantial recurring operating costs?
Residential cruising brings together accommodation, transportation and lifestyle services in one offering. However, unlike a conventional residential property, a cruise ship requires continuous expenditure on fuel, maintenance, crew, insurance and port operations. These costs do not pause when bookings or cabin sales slow down.
The business model also creates a particular financial challenge. Cabin sales can generate significant initial revenue, but they do not necessarily provide enough recurring income to support years of operations. A viable model must account for long-term costs, replacement reserves, unexpected repairs and fluctuations in global fuel prices.
The episode also raises questions about customer protection. When people invest their savings and reorganise their lives around a hospitality offering, the relationship extends beyond that of a typical guest and service provider. Operators need clear contingency arrangements, transparent financial communication and practical plans for disruptions, including accommodation and repatriation where necessary.
An innovative hospitality proposition may attract attention and create a new market, but its credibility depends on what happens when the business faces pressure. The real test of a residential hospitality model is not how convincingly it sells a lifestyle, but whether it can sustain that lifestyle over time and protect the people who have invested in it.
Villa Vie's shutdown is a reminder that innovation can create demand, but operational discipline, financial resilience and customer trust determine whether a hospitality business can endure

Air India has unveiled a new collection of amenity kits and loungewear for international travellers, bringing together Indian art, traditional craftsmanship and wellness-inspired products to enhance the onboard experience. Launching from October 2026, the collection has been developed in collaboration with Forest Essentials and combines contemporary design with elements of India's cultural heritage.
The new amenity kits and loungewear will be available on flights exceeding eight hours and overnight flights lasting more than six hours. The collection includes specially designed kits for First Class and Business Class, along with a refreshed amenity kit for Premium Economy passengers.
First Class Amenity Kits Inspired by Gond Art
Air India's First Class amenity kits form part of The Art of Flight collection, featuring original artwork created exclusively for the airline by renowned Gond artist Dwarka Paraste. Inspired by nature, movement and discovery, the designs bring the traditional Indian art form into the onboard experience.
The kits feature different colours for outbound and inbound journeys. Ivory Cream kits will be offered on flights departing India, while Antique White kits will be available on flights arriving in the country. The artwork and colour palette will be refreshed every six months, allowing the kits to develop into a collectible series over time.
The amenity kits include a curated selection of Ayurvedic-inspired skincare and fragrance products from Forest Essentials, presented in a satin pouch. First Class guests will receive a Light Day Lotion with SPF 30, Facial Tonic Mist, Lip Cream, Ultra-Rich Body Milk and intense perfume. Travel essentials such as socks, an eye mask, ear plugs, a dental kit and a hair tie are also included, alongside a story card explaining the artwork and its inspiration.
Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India, said, “At Air India, every element of the journey is an opportunity to make our guests feel cared for, comfortable and connected to the warmth of India. Our new amenity kits and loungewear have been thoughtfully designed to go beyond functionality, weaving together India's rich traditions of art, craftsmanship and wellness with the expectations of the modern global traveller. From Gond art and the colours of the Navratna to Kullu weaving and Ayurvedic wellbeing, these collections tell uniquely Indian stories while elevating the onboard experience. As we continue to transform Air India into a world-class global airline, we are creating experiences that allow guests to take a meaningful piece of India with them wherever they travel.”
Navratna Collection for Business Class
Business Class passengers will receive amenity kits from the Navratna Collection, inspired by the nine gems of Indian tradition. The collection uses nine distinctive colours, with Coral kits offered on flights departing India and Ruby kits on inbound flights.
Presented in a Jharoka-shaped bag made from premium PU leather, the kits contain Forest Essentials Lip Cream, Ultra-Rich Body Milk and intense perfume in a satin pouch. Additional essentials include socks, an eye mask, ear plugs, a dental kit and a hair tie, along with a story card explaining the collection's inspiration.
Ayurvedic Marma Massager Adds a Wellness Touch
A distinctive feature across both First and Business Class amenity kits is a handcrafted Ayurvedic Marma massager, described by Air India as a first-of-its-kind inclusion in an airline amenity kit.
Made from 100% natural wood, the massager draws inspiration from the Ayurvedic practice of stimulating Marma points to encourage relaxation and wellbeing. A dedicated story card introduces guests to the tradition, adding a wellness-focused element to the long-haul travel experience.
Premium Economy Receives Refreshed Amenities
Premium Economy passengers will receive a practical, reusable Air India-branded amenity bag containing a hand cream and lip balm from The Indian Apothecary. Socks, an eye mask and a story card complete the kit, combining everyday travel essentials with a design intended for use beyond the flight.
Loungewear Inspired by Himachal Pradesh's Kullu Craft
Alongside the amenity kits, Air India is introducing new loungewear for First and Business Class passengers, drawing inspiration from Himachal Pradesh's Kullu shawl-weaving tradition. The gender-neutral collection incorporates the craft's distinctive geometric motifs through subtle woven detailing on a contemporary Henley-style top and matching bottoms. Designed in a soft, comfortable fabric for long-haul journeys, the range features understated Air India branding and a relaxed silhouette.
Available in four sizes, including a newly introduced XXL, each set comes in a bespoke carry bag with a story card celebrating the Kullu tradition. Air India has also changed the colour of its carpet slippers from grey to beige to complement the loungewear's colour palette.
Through these additions, Air India aims to bring Indian artistry, wellness traditions and textile heritage into its international travel experience. By combining traditional influences with contemporary design and practical amenities, the airline is creating onboard offerings that reflect its identity as a global carrier with an Indian heart.
