ITC Gardenia Bengaluru has marked World Environment Day with a major sustainability achievement, securing the prestigious LEED Zero Water Certification. The recognition further strengthens the hotel’s position as a pioneer in responsible hospitality and green building practices in India.

The certification places ITC Gardenia among a select group of global hospitality properties that have successfully balanced total potable water consumption with recycled water sources, demonstrating a closed-loop approach to water management. This milestone follows its earlier achievement of LEED Zero Carbon certification, reinforcing its long-term environmental strategy.

As one of Asia’s early adopters of sustainable luxury practices, ITC Gardenia was also among the first hotels in the region to receive the USGBC LEED Platinum rating in 2009. Over the years, the property has continued to build on its environmental commitments through integrated water conservation systems, including extensive rainwater harvesting infrastructure and its in-house bottled water plant, “SunyaAqua.”

The hotel’s design and operations reflect its core philosophy of Responsible Luxury, where environmental stewardship and premium hospitality coexist. Features such as wind-cooled atriums, vertical hanging gardens, and the Central Courtyard Garden highlight a strong integration of natural elements within an urban luxury setting. At the centre of the property stands the Lotus Pavilion, known for its distinctive “living roof” and garden-inspired architecture.

ITC Gardenia’s sustainability framework extends across all operational areas, from energy-efficient systems to waste reduction initiatives. The hotel reports near-total reliance on renewable electricity and continues to focus on reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining high standards of guest comfort and luxury experience.

Speaking on the achievement, Amandeep Kaur, General Manager of ITC Gardenia, said the certification reflects the hotel’s ongoing commitment to responsible water use and environmental accountability.

This recognition is a proud moment for all of us at ITC Gardenia. Attaining LEED Zero Water certification is a testament to our continuous efforts to encourage responsible water consumption. We shall continue to create meaningful hospitality experiences that are planet positive,” she said.

The milestone further reinforces ITC Hotels Limited’s broader sustainability vision, which integrates innovation, design, and environmental responsibility across its portfolio. The group continues to lead globally in LEED-certified hotels, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency, water conservation, and low-carbon operations.

Through this achievement, ITC Gardenia continues to exemplify the brand’s philosophy of aligning luxury with responsibility, positioning itself as a benchmark for sustainable hospitality in India and beyond.
