ITDC Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Plantation Drive Honouring Mothers and Earth

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, marked World Environment Day 2025 with a meaningful and symbolic event at The Ashok and Hotel Samrat, Chanakyapuri.

Centred around the heartfelt campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide call to plant a tree in honour of one’s mother, a tribute that intertwines gratitude with ecological consciousness.

The event was led by Ms. Mugdha Sinha, IAS, Managing Director, ITDC, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from Functional Directors, senior management, and dedicated staff. Notably, ITDC also honoured its gardening personnel and their children — the often-unsung green champions behind the lush surroundings of The Ashok and Hotel Samrat.

This initiative resonated with the United Nations’ 2025 World Environment Day theme — “Beat Plastic Pollution”, as ITDC showcased its strong commitment to a plastic-free, sustainable future.

A symbolic tree plantation drive formed the core of the event, where each participant planted a sapling in their mother’s name, creating a deep emotional and environmental connection with the act of nurturing life.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Mugdha Sinha, IAS, shared,

“Planting a tree in the name of a mother is like paying homage to the universal Mother Earth, the nurturing life force that procreates, nurtures, and sustains all of life. Inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister's call of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, on this World Environment Day, ITDC reiterates its commitment towards a circular economy and sustainable environment, free from plastic waste.”

ITDC’s flagship properties, The Ashok and Hotel Samrat, already exemplify climate-responsive architecture, with designs that follow natural contours, preserve existing trees, and minimise heat-island impact. This creates a naturally cooler microclimate and reinforces ITDC’s focus on eco-conscious hospitality.

As the world comes together to celebrate sustainability, ITDC’s tribute to both mothers and Mother Earth stands as a touching and timely reminder of the nurturing power shared by the two.

In a heartwarming celebration of togetherness, Annapurna Girls Hostel in Greater Noida hosted a special Diwali event titled “Diwali with Daughters” for students who couldn’t return home for the festival. The initiative aimed to bring warmth, inclusion, and the feeling of family to young women spending the festive season away from their loved ones.

Surrounded by leading institutions like Sharda University, Noida International University, Amity University, and Galgotia University, the hostel has long been recognised as a safe and student-friendly space. This year, its campus came alive with diyas, rangoli, and sweets, turning every corner into a reflection of the festival’s light and happiness. Students participated in diya-making, rangoli design, and cultural performances, transforming the hostel into a colourful and cheerful space that echoed the spirit of home.

The celebration concluded with a community dinner, where students, wardens, and management shared festive delicacies together. The symbolic lighting of diyas by everyone present marked hope, positivity, and new beginnings, a gesture that brought both comfort and connection to those far from home.

Chairperson Kunwar Gaurav Giri shared, “Many of our students are from different areas of study and are unable to go home for festivals due to distance. We saw this as an opportunity to create space for students to experience family warmth and the feeling of celebration. Diwali with Daughters is a reminder for students that they are not alone, Annapurna is their second home.”

More than just a festive event, Diwali with Daughters reflected Annapurna’s ongoing commitment to student well-being and emotional comfort. It reinforced the idea that even when miles away from family, festivals can be just as meaningful when celebrated in a caring, safe, and nurturing environment.

(ICIL), a global leader in home textiles and the world’s largest manufacturer of bed linen, has partnered with ProXpense, an AI-powered Travel & Expense Management platform, to streamline and digitize travel and expense management for its India offices and globally traveling workforce.

Previously, managing employee travel and expenses across multiple geographies through India offices was a time-consuming process, involving manual reports, delayed reimbursements, and limited spend visibility. With ProXpense’s AI-driven platform, Indo Count now benefits from real-time expense tracking, automated policy enforcement, and AI-powered auditing, enabling improved control, compliance, and operational efficiency.

“We’re thrilled to onboard Indo Count and support their vision of building a smarter, digitally empowered travel and expense ecosystem,” said Himanshu Singh, Founder & CEO, ProXpense. “Our goal is to help enterprises like Indo Count automate repetitive processes, ensure real-time compliance, and deliver a seamless user experience, making expense management intelligent, transparent, and future-ready.”
