Marriott International is capitalizing on the increasing demand for leisure travel in Canada, which has resulted in a robust 36% year-on-year growth in hotel-level leisure revenue in 2023. This growth underscores Marriott’s expanding influence in the Canadian hospitality sector, particularly through its lifestyle brand offerings.
The company is enhancing its portfolio with unique soft brands such as the Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio. These brands offer hotel owners and developers greater design flexibility, appealing to travelers seeking distinctive, memorable stays in attractive locations.
Paul Cahill, Senior Vice-President of Canada Operations at Marriott International, emphasized the strategic presence across the country, stating, "In addition to development teams in eastern and western Canada, Marriott International has dedicated sales and marketing teams that engage closely with owners, developers, customers, and guests to align with market needs."
Marriott’s focus also extends to upper midscale and extended-stay brands, which are rapidly growing within the region. Fairfield by Marriott and TownePlace Suites by Marriott are among the fastest expanding, with a combined total of 101 hotels operating and in development.
Noah Silverman, Global Development Officer for the US and Canada, highlighted the sustained growth prospects, noting, "We’re expecting leisure demand in Canada to remain strong throughout 2024, particularly in popular destinations like Vancouver Island, the Okanagan Valley, Atlantic Canada, and the Niagara Region."
A pivotal component of Marriott's strategy is its Marriott Bonvoy program, which boasts over 200 million members globally. The program not only helps in retaining guests but also offers unique experiences like VIP access at the Toronto International Film Festival and exclusive events with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
Marriott Bonvoy has effectively catered to the Canadian market through localized marketing and strategic partnerships with key local entities such as Live Nation Canada and major sports teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.
With these strategic initiatives, Marriott International is poised to further enhance its footprint in the Canadian market, providing unique and enriching experiences to leisure travelers across the country.
This strategic expansion underscores Marriott’s commitment to catering to the evolving preferences of travelers and enhancing the leisure travel experience across Canada.
