Marriott International has reached a significant milestone with the opening of its 600th property in the Asia Pacific region, excluding China. The new Adelaide Marriott Hotel marks the brand's first venture into South Australia and reflects Marriott’s ongoing commitment to expanding in emerging travel destinations.
The Adelaide Marriott Hotel is housed in the historic 150-year-old Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building, featuring a blend of modern luxury and historic charm. The 14-story hotel offers 285 guest rooms, including 12 suites, all providing stunning views of the city skyline. The hotel’s opening aligns with a growing trend of domestic and regional travelers seeking unique experiences in nearby destinations.
As Marriott’s flagship brand, Marriott Hotels has a long history of delivering exceptional hospitality, dating back to its founding in 1957. The brand first entered the Asia Pacific region in 1989 with the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay. Today, there are over 50 Marriott Hotels in the region, with nearly 40 more in development. This steady growth underscores the confidence that guests, owners, and franchisees have in the Marriott brand.
Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific excluding China at Marriott International, expressed excitement about the new property: “We are thrilled to celebrate our 600th property milestone in the region with the Adelaide Marriott Hotel, a brand that bears the name of our founding family. With 600 operational properties across the APEC region and close to 400 in the pipeline, our growth trajectory is robust.”
Marriott’s expansion strategy is not only focused on growth but also on giving back to the communities it serves. The company’s workforce in the region includes over 95,000 associates, both managed and franchised, who contribute to local economic development. By the end of 2024, nearly 10% of these associates are expected to move into new roles within the region, further developing their skills and careers. Marriott’s recent certification as a Great Place to Work in eight Asia Pacific countries, including Australia, highlights the company’s dedication to creating a positive and supportive work environment.
