Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, K H Muniyappa, has expressed concern over the alarming issue of food wastage and called on the hospitality industry to take immediate action.

Speaking at the prestigious World of Hospitality Expo, Minister Muniyappa highlighted the significant resources invested in food production and the staggering amount wasted, estimated at around 25%. He emphasized the role of the hospitality sector, particularly dining halls and marriage halls, in preventing food wastage.

Minister Muniyappa announced his intention to meet with key stakeholders in the hotel industry within the state to implement critical measures aimed at achieving better food security. These steps will address the pressing issue of food wastage and promote sustainable practices in the hospitality sector.

As part of the expo, the Incredible Chef Challenge took place, showcasing the talents of nearly 200 young individuals from hotel chains and institutes. The event provided a platform for aspiring chefs to display their culinary skills and creativity.

Renowned Indian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Chef Damodharan K, shared his perspective on the food industry. He noted the vast opportunities available but expressed concern about the relatively low interest among students in pursuing careers in this sector.

The event was attended by notable personalities, including representatives from the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association, and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. The expo also featured engaging discussions on the future of the food and beverage industry in India, hosted by the Bangalore Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Food Service Consultants Association of India (FSCAI).
