In a notable recognition of his leadership and dedication to the travel and tourism sector, Mr. Rajiv Mehra, President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), has been awarded a prestigious honor by the Chamber for Service Industry (CSI) and the Management Alumni of FMS Delhi University. This accolade acknowledges Mr. Mehra’s steadfast commitment to enhancing India’s inbound tourism and his initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and innovation in the industry.
The award was presented to Mr. Mehra on the eve of World Tourism Day. Due to his absence, the award was graciously accepted by his daughter, Ms. Sakshi Mehra, during a ceremony held at Manekshaw Auditorium in Delhi Cantt, New Delhi.
Mr. Mehra graduated with an Honours degree in Economics from Hans Raj College, part of Delhi University. He has built a robust career in the tourism industry, spanning 44 years. His journey in this field began in 1977, leading to the establishment of his own company, Uday Tours and Travel Pvt. Ltd., in 1990.
Currently serving as President of IATO, Mr. Mehra has been instrumental in the organization for the past 26 years, contributing significantly to its annual conventions. Before his presidency, he held the position of Vice President within IATO. His extensive experience is reflected in his travels, having visited over 30 countries globally.
Mr. Mehra’s recognition by the CSI and FMS Delhi University Alumni underscores his vital role in enhancing India’s reputation as a prominent destination for international travelers. His efforts not only focus on boosting tourism numbers but also emphasize the importance of sustainability within the sector. The award represents a significant milestone in Mr. Mehra’s career, further motivating him and his peers to work towards a thriving future for the tourism industry in India.
