Nando's, the globally recognized South African brand known for its flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken, is expanding into Mumbai with plans to open five new restaurants across the city. These locations will include a flagship restaurant at Terminal 2, Mumbai airport, and others at prominent shopping malls, marking an exciting chapter for the brand in India.

Building on its success in Delhi and a strong reception in Hyderabad, Nando's is confident that Mumbai, a city known for its love of bold flavors, will embrace its signature spicy dishes. The new restaurants, referred to as "Casas" (meaning "home" in Portuguese), will bring the distinctive Afro-Portuguese experience to Mumbai’s vibrant dining scene.

“We are incredibly proud to launch Nando’s in Mumbai, a city that’s always been known for its bold, diverse food culture. We’ve received a lot of demand, and we can’t wait to introduce our flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken to Mumbai’s spice lovers,” said Sameer Bhasin, CEO of Nando’s India.

Nando’s is renowned not only for its spicy chicken dishes but also for its lively restaurant atmosphere. Guests can expect an immersive dining experience, with décor and music inspired by the brand’s Southern African and Portuguese heritage. In addition to signature dishes like PERi-PERi chicken, Nando’s will offer an array of burgers, veggie options, and more.

“We’re excited to bring Mumbai a dining experience that’s much more than just great food. Nando’s vibrant atmosphere, from its restaurant design to its curated Afro-Luso music, will truly set it apart,” added Karan Kapur, Executive Director at K Hospitality Corp, Nando’s joint-venture partner in India.

With this expansion, Nando's is ready to make its mark on Mumbai’s food scene, promising a blend of flavor, culture, and a unique dining experience.

India Cuts Bourbon Whisky Tariffs Amid Trump’s Criticism

India Cuts Bourbon Whisky Tariffs Amid Trump’s Criticism

India has slashed tariffs on bourbon whisky imports from 150% to 100%, a move that will benefit American liquor brands like Jim Beam. The tariff revision, which was notified on February 13 but gained media attention later, comes amid intensifying criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding India's trade policies.

Trump, who recently met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House, has repeatedly called out India’s high import duties as unfair to American businesses. He also announced a reciprocal tariff policy targeting countries imposing heavy levies on U.S. exports.

The new structure imposes a basic customs duty of 50% with an additional 50% levy, bringing the total duty to 100% for bourbon whisky. Other imported liquor products remain unchanged at 150% tariffs.

Experts believe the decision reflects India's willingness to adjust trade policies for strategic partners. Pratik Jain, partner at PwC India, noted that the move could signal India’s openness to tariff revisions for key allies.

India’s $35 billion spirits market is home to major global players like Diageo and Pernod Ricard, who have long criticized the country’s high import tariffs. Vinod Giri, Director General of the Brewers Association of India, stated that while bourbon whisky holds symbolic trade value, the decision is likely aimed at easing tensions with the U.S. and preventing retaliatory trade measures.

As India seeks deeper integration into the global economy, the reduction in bourbon whisky tariffs may be the first step in broader trade realignments.
