In a significant move to promote tribal tourism and cultural heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the "Tribal Cultural Experience" project in Chumoukedima district of Nagaland. This innovative project, nestled in the Midway Retreat at Tsiepama village between Kohima and Dimapur, aims to offer visitors an authentic insight into the rich tribal culture and way of life of the Naga people. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Tourism's ambitious Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, designed to enhance tourism infrastructure and experiences across India.

The Tribal Cultural Experience project allows tourists to stay in traditional cottages, providing a firsthand experience of Naga tribal culture, cuisine, and hospitality. This effort is not only expected to attract more visitors to the region but also to create sustainable livelihoods for the local communities, contributing to the preservation of their unique cultural heritage.

State Tourism Commissioner & Secretary I. Kitto Zhimomi highlighted Nagaland's missed opportunities during the industrial and green revolutions but emphasised the potential benefits of embracing the tourism sector. The successful completion of various projects under the first phase of the Swadesh Darshan scheme in six districts—Peren, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon, and Tuensang—underscores the state's commitment to developing its tourism infrastructure. The Swadesh Darshan 2.0 will further extend to Niuland and Chumoukedima districts, promising continued growth and development in the sector.

The virtual launch of the Tribal Cultural Experience, alongside 53 other projects nationwide, is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Tourism to drive tourism growth across the country. The Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD schemes aim to develop pilgrimage and heritage sites, enhancing facilities and infrastructure to support the influx of visitors.

As Nagaland continues to develop its tourism sector, the focus remains on empowering local communities, safeguarding cultural heritage, and fostering sustainable economic growth through tourism. The Tribal Cultural Experience project in Chumoukedima district stands as a testament to these efforts, inviting visitors to explore the beauty and traditions of Nagaland in an immersive and meaningful way.
