Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, the 94-year-old luxury landmark in Cambodia, has been named one of the world’s top 100 hotels by Fodor’s, a leading international travel authority with more than 80 years of editorial legacy. The recognition positions the historic property among the global elite of luxury hospitality.
The hotel was one of only 15 properties across Asia to feature on Fodor’s list of the ‘100 Most Incredible Hotels in the World’ and stood out as the only hotel from Cambodia to receive the honour. The distinction further strengthens the hotel’s reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s most celebrated addresses.
In its review, Fodor’s highlighted the hotel’s architectural and cultural significance, stating, “The opulence of Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor pays tribute to Siem Reap’s wonder of the world, Angkor Wat, and its temple complex, and reflects the grandeur of the historical site.” The publication also noted, “The hotel has hosted royalty and heads of state, Hollywood stars, and famous artists. The hotel’s rich history is woven throughout the building’s Art Deco design and Cambodian colonial stylings.”
Fodor’s further praised the hotel’s spa and culinary offerings, describing its authentic Khmer restaurant 1932 as a ‘can’t miss experience’ and adding that “the attention to service is as impressive as the execution of the heavenly meal”.
The recognition caps a strong year for Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor. In July, the property was also named among the world’s top 100 hotels in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, one of the most sought-after accolades in global hospitality. Earlier last year, the hotel was included in the magazine’s list of the World’s ‘500 Best Hotels’ for the fourth consecutive year.
Originally opened in 1932 as a rest stop for archaeologists and adventurers exploring the ancient kingdom of Angkor Wat, the hotel remains a refined expression of 1930s French Art Deco design. Its rooms, suites and villas blend old-world elegance with Cambodian influences and contemporary detailing.
The hotel has also introduced a ‘Curated Journeys’ menu, offering guests distinctive experiences such as a ‘Bespoke Temple Dinner’ by candlelight at the Angkor temple complex, a ‘Lost Civilisations of Angkor by Vespa’ tour, and the ‘Siem Reap Art Tour’, which provides insight into the city’s vibrant art scene. In addition, the on-site ‘Resort Programme’ highlights the hotel’s heritage and traditions.
Nearly all of the hotel’s 119 guest rooms and suites underwent a detailed refurbishment in 2019. Signature features such as the classic metal and timber elevator in the lobby and the vintage ambience of The Elephant Bar have been carefully preserved, maintaining the timeless character that defines Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor.
