In the picturesque setting of Langkawi, the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club is gearing up for the 20th edition of the prestigious international sailing regatta. From January 15th to 20th, 2024, this event will take center stage as a prominent highlight in the South East Asian calendar. A celebration of sailing excellence, the regatta aims to not only mark a significant milestone in its two-decade history but also to showcase Malaysia and Langkawi as premier sailing destinations, contributing to the growth of sports tourism in the region.

This year, the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) will bring together 33 sailing boats and over 250 participants from various countries, creating a truly international and competitive atmosphere. With classes like Racing, IRC1, IRC2, Multihull, Sports Boats, Club Class, and Ocean Rover/White Sail, the regatta promises thrilling competitions across different categories.

The winners in each class will be awarded prestigious trophies, adding to the excitement of the event. Notable awards include the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy for the Racing class, LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy for IRC 1 class, RLIR-IRC 2 Challenge Trophy for IRC 2 class, the Commodore’s Challenge Cup for Club class, Langkawi Sports Trophy for Sports Boat class, and Malaysia Multihull Challenge Cup for Multihull class. The Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award will recognize outstanding sportsmanship both on water and land.

The RLIR expresses gratitude to its collaborative partner, the Belt and Road Regatta (BRR), and sponsors such as Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the Kedah State Government, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), ALJ Global Sdn Bhd, Hypergear, Liquid Marketing Sdn Bhd, and Rainman.

Media partners, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), TRAXXfm, HOMME, Sea Yachting, and Digital Vision Advertising (DVA), play a vital role in bringing the event to a broader audience.

Supported by the Malaysia Sailing Association (MSA) and the World Sailing and Aseanarean Bluewater Alliance, the RLIR stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of sailing and the vibrant maritime community in the region. As the regatta unfolds, it not only showcases the prowess of sailors but also the beauty of Langkawi as a sailing haven in Southeast Asia.
