Seclude Hotels has launched Seclude Fort Unchagaon, a 300-year-old heritage fort in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, bringing a historic family estate into its portfolio as a heritage stay destination around two hours from Delhi-NCR.

Spread across 19 acres of mango orchards, the 22-room property marks Seclude's largest heritage redesign to date. The project combines the fort's original architecture and family collections with contemporary hospitality, while creating a range of experiences that allow guests to explore the property's history and its surrounding landscape.

Fort Unchagaon reflects Seclude Hotels' approach of working with properties that have an existing sense of place and character. The brand's portfolio includes heritage villas in Shimla and Kerala as well as royal properties in Hampi and Nahan.

Commenting on the property, Ramit Sethi, Co-Founder, Seclude Hotels, said: “One of the things that sealed it for me was realizing that I was staying in a room where Jawaharlal Nehru had once stayed. I could see how the old kings lived through the photographs on the walls, and everywhere I looked, the spaces were bursting with potential, waiting to be explored. Taking on a property like this is our biggest challenge and our greatest joy, figuring out how to bring all of that history, character and possibility to life. How could I say no?”

The restoration has focused on retaining elements of the estate that reflect its heritage. The fort's original architecture, royal courts, family collections and heirlooms remain part of the property.

The Tiger Room features hunting artefacts from the estate's royal past, while a former Air India lounge houses vintage travel memorabilia. Family photographs, books, cameras and other objects collected over generations are also displayed across the fort.

Rohit Sethi, Founder, Seclude Hotels, said: “As we entered the fort on our first visit, I knew I wanted it. The massive gates, the grand scale, the feeling of the place, I knew immediately that this was something we could never create anywhere else. And then we got to work, redesigning the spaces and bringing out the details that nod to its 300 years of history. Because that is something we could never build in our lifetimes, and that is what makes Unchagaon so special.”

The property has been organised into three distinct wings - The Royal Wing, The King's Court and The Queen's Courtyard, each drawing inspiration from a different aspect of its royal past.

The guest experience follows Seclude's focus on Design, Food and Experience. The design retains the character of the existing fort while introducing contemporary details. The culinary offering brings local flavours into the stay, while the experience programme allows guests to explore the property's history through an audio trail available on Spotify.

Guests can follow a map, scan QR codes and discover stories connected to the rooms, people and collections as they move through the fort.

Beyond the property, experiences include pottery with local artisans, archery, badminton and croquet, along with opportunities to explore the neighbouring village. Guests can also travel towards the Ganga for dolphin watching.

The property's location also makes it a weekend option for families travelling from Delhi-NCR, including those looking for a heritage stay without an extended road journey. The expansive grounds and multiple spaces across the fort allow guests to spend time at the property at a relaxed pace.

Seclude Fort Unchagaon is also pet-friendly, with its 19 acres of orchards and open grounds providing space for guests to travel with their pets.

The heritage property is additionally positioned for destination weddings, celebrations, family gatherings and corporate offsites. Its royal courts, lawns, poolside spaces and former Diwan Khana provide multiple settings for events, allowing celebrations to take place across the estate rather than within a conventional banquet environment.

Fort Unchagaon has also featured in popular culture, including as Alia Bhatt's family home in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The property is also set to feature in the upcoming Prime Video series Ek Khoya Mahal.

For travellers from Delhi-NCR, Seclude Fort Unchagaon offers a heritage-led weekend experience that combines the character of a 300-year-old fort with contemporary hospitality, local experiences and the scale of a private estate.
