Southern Railway is preparing to introduce a unique heritage special train on popular tourist routes. The train, which features an electric motor car designed to resemble a vintage steam locomotive, includes three AC executive chair car coaches, an AC pantry car, and a restaurant coach. The concept of the train is to blend heritage and development, incorporating the emotional connection people have with steam trains. The train has undergone successful testing and is expected to be operational on heritage routes within the next two months.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, expressed his enthusiasm for the project and stated that if the heritage train proves successful, more tourist special trains could be introduced across the country. The passenger coaches have been refurbished and upgraded to offer a premium travel experience, featuring wooden paneling, aesthetically designed interiors, and larger windows similar to vistadome coaches. The restaurant coach provides comfortable seating for 28 passengers, with teak wood furniture, while the pantry car is equipped with modern cooking facilities and refrigeration. The train's distinctive design and use of artificial steam during movement create a nostalgic and captivating atmosphere for passengers.

The Southern Railway is also collaborating with the tourism department of the state to identify suitable routes for the heritage train. This initiative aims to promote tourism and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers by combining historical charm with modern amenities.
