Starbucks is set to establish its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India in Chennai, marking another addition to Tamil Nadu’s growing ecosystem of global capability centres. The world’s largest coffeehouse chain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up its GCC in Chennai.

The centre is expected to create around 800 high-value technology jobs in its first phase. The move adds to Chennai’s growing presence as a hub for global companies looking to access skilled talent, develop technology capabilities and support their operations across international markets.

The Tamil Nadu Government has also announced three dedicated GCC corridors in Chennai, supported by higher Floor Space Index (FSI). The initiative is aimed at enabling the development and expansion of large-scale global capability operations in the city. With Starbucks joining the ecosystem, Chennai continues to attract global brands and businesses looking to build technology, innovation and support capabilities from the city.

Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion approach is focused on building long-term partnerships with global companies while creating high-value employment opportunities and strengthening the state’s position in the global capability landscape. The establishment of Starbucks’ GCC is expected to further contribute to Chennai’s growing technology and business ecosystem while opening new opportunities for skilled professionals in the city.
