Surat Marriott brought the unique and beloved flavors of Parsi cuisine to the city with a grand 10-day food festival at its all-day dining restaurant, Table 101. Held from March 14th to 23rd, the festival celebrated the rich culinary heritage of the Parsi community, culminating in a special Navroz Sunday brunch.

The Parsi community has been an integral part of Surat for generations, yet authentic Parsi cuisine remains a rarity in the city's dining scene. Recognizing this gap, Surat Marriott had previously hosted a smaller three-day Parsi food festival in September 2024, which received an overwhelming response. Encouraged by this enthusiasm, the hotel decided to bring back the festival on a larger scale, drawing food lovers not just from Surat but also from Navsari, Valsad, and Dahanu.

The festival menu featured an array of Parsi delicacies, including the classic Dhansak, Salli Boti, Patrani Macchi, Tarela Jhinga, Kid Gosht, Prawns Pulao, and the ever-popular Lagan Nu Custard. Each dish showcased the traditional Persian influences that evolved with local Gujarati ingredients, creating a distinctive and flavorful cuisine.

Parsi cuisine traces its origins to Persia, where the community’s diet was rich in stews, meats, dry fruits, and nuts. After migrating to Gujarat’s coastal regions, the Parsis adapted their cuisine by incorporating locally available fish, resulting in a unique blend of flavors that have stood the test of time.

Speaking about the initiative, Cluster Director of F&B, Chef Sunil Gangwal, shared, “The city of Surat has very few establishments offering authentic Parsi cuisine. We identified this gap and collaborated with Parsi home cooks from Surat to design the menu and even cook a few signature dishes alongside our culinary team. The result was an immersive dining experience that brought the warmth of a Parsi household to the refined hospitality of Marriott.”

With yet another successful edition of the Parsi food festival, Surat Marriott continues to bring diverse culinary experiences to the city, celebrating traditions while offering guests a taste of authentic flavors.
