The Ministry of Tourism is taking significant strides to elevate India's tourism sector with the launch of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) and the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme. Aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible tourism, these initiatives are set to transform 57 destinations across the country into tourism hotspots.

Union Minister of Tourism, G.K Reddy, shared in the Lok Sabha that under the revamped Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a total of 76 projects have been sanctioned. This move is part of the government's broader strategy to enhance tourism infrastructure and experiences across India. Each state and union territory is tasked with creating a State Perspective Plan, guiding the selection of destinations for development.

The PRASHAD Scheme, focusing on the integrated development of pilgrimage destinations, has already sanctioned 46 projects with an investment of INR 1631.93 crore. This scheme aims to improve the infrastructure around pilgrimage sites, making them more accessible and enriching the spiritual journey for visitors.

Despite the enthusiasm for domestic tourism development, the Ministry's latest budget reveals a surprising shift. While the total budget stands at INR 2449.62 crores, there's been a notable reduction in funds allocated for overseas promotion and publicity, now just INR 3.02 crores for 2024-2025. This decision highlights a strategic focus on boosting domestic tourism over international outreach.

The Ministry of Tourism, as the nodal agency for national tourism policies, plays a crucial role in both domestic and international tourism promotion. By leveraging various platforms such as websites, social media, and participation in travel fairs, the Ministry aims to showcase India's diverse tourist destinations and cultural heritage to a global audience.

These developments mark a pivotal moment in India's tourism industry, with the government's initiatives poised to enhance visitor experiences and support local economies. As the country prepares to welcome more tourists to its spiritual and cultural landmarks, the focus on sustainable and responsible tourism promises a bright future for India's travel sector.
