Symington Family Estates has proudly announced the release of its highly anticipated 2022 vintage port collection, showcasing the exceptional quality born from the challenges of a scorching heatwave year in the Douro wine region.
Despite facing record-breaking temperatures reaching as high as 47°C, Symington's vineyards displayed remarkable resilience during the 2022 growing season. The result is a trio of vintage ports that embody the unique terroir and character of the estate's renowned vineyards.
Led by head winemaker Charles Symington, the Quinta do Vesúvio estate yielded three micro-terroirs that flourished under the extreme conditions. These distinct plots of vineyard contributed to the creation of the limited-edition Capela da Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port, marking only the fifth release of this exceptional wine. Alongside it, Symington presents the Quinta do Vesúvio 2022 Vintage Port and Dow’s Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira 2022 Vintage Port, both testament to the estate's unwavering commitment to quality.
Charles Symington remarked, "The 2022 vintage delivered outstanding quality, with vineyards producing grapes of exceptional power, structure, and refinement. We are thrilled to introduce the fifth vintage of Capela do Vesúvio Vintage Port, alongside two equally exciting Vintage Ports from Quinta do Vesúvio."
Despite facing one of the most challenging growing seasons in recent memory, the Symington family's dedication to sustainability and viticultural research ensured the vineyards thrived. The resulting wines offer concentrated flavors, lifted aromas, and remarkable purity of fruit—a true reflection of the Douro's unique terroir.
Only a limited number of bottles will be produced, underscoring the exclusivity and prestige of these vintage ports. Enthusiasts can anticipate the release of the Quinta do Vesúvio 2022 Vintage Port and Capela da Quinta do Vesúvio 2022 Vintage Port in mid-June, with further offerings to follow.
As Symington Family Estates continues to uphold its legacy of excellence, wine lovers worldwide can savor the extraordinary craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to quality embodied in each bottle of 2022 vintage port. Stay tuned for updates on the release of these highly anticipated wines, a testament to resilience and quality in the face of adversity.
