Thailand is set to enhance its visa regulations to encourage longer stays by tourists, starting June this year. This policy adjustment will allow travelers from up to 93 countries to remain in the country for up to 60 days, significantly up from the previous 30 days. The expansion from the current 57 eligible nations is a strategic move to invigorate the tourism sector, which serves as a vital pillar of Thailand's economy and a significant source of employment.
Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke highlighted that this initiative aims to attract more visitors and diversify the types of travelers to Thailand, including students, workers, and retirees. The extension applies to on-arrival visas, aiming to simplify travel processes and enhance tourist convenience.
This visa extension is part of a broader strategy to revive the slowing economy by boosting the tourism sector. Additional measures include easing insurance requirements for retirees and offering an extra year of stay for foreign postgraduate students after graduation. These changes are designed to attract a more diverse group of visitors and residents, further contributing to Thailand's economic revival and enhancing its appeal as a long-term destination for international travelers.
