The Kitchen by Chef Deepa has introduced a special Navratri Fasting Menu in Chennai, bringing together traditional vrat preparations, light bites, refreshing beverages and festive desserts for those observing the festival.
The Chennai-based vegetarian home kitchen, known for its Punjabi and Amritsari-inspired home-style food, has curated the menu around familiar fasting preparations while keeping the dishes rooted in simple ingredients and homemade cooking.
The Vrat Specials include Vrat Wale Aloo Moongphali, Shakarkandi Ki Subzi, Sabudana Khichdi, Sabudana Wada, Singhare Ke Atte Ke Pakode and Singhare Ki Puri. The selection brings together several commonly enjoyed fasting preparations, ranging from sabudana-based dishes to sweet potato and singhara flour specialities.
For lighter options, the menu features Shakarkandi Chaat, Fruit Chaat and Freshly Cut Fruit Salad. The beverage selection includes Amritsari Lassi, Masala Chaach, Shikanji, Thandhai, Ambi Kiwi Panna, Banana Milkshake with Nuts and Strawberry Milkshake.
The festive menu also includes traditional desserts such as Phoolmakhane Ki Kheer, Sabudana Ki Kheer and Jamun Rabri, offering a selection of sweet finishes to the fasting meal.
According to Chef Deepa Arora, Founder, The Kitchen by Chef Deepa, the menu was created to make fasting food feel familiar and comforting while retaining the character of a festive meal.
“Our idea was to make fasting food feel just as enjoyable and comforting as any festive meal. Navratri is a time when families come together and food remains an important part of the celebration. We wanted to bring together familiar vrat favourites while keeping the food wholesome, flavourful and homemade,” she said.
The menu reflects the kitchen's focus on simple ingredients, pure flavours and homemade preparations, with the dishes prepared using pure ghee.
Unlike a dine-in festival, the Navratri offering is available for order in Chennai, allowing individuals and families observing the festival to enjoy the menu at home.
