The Leela Leads the Early Q2 Picture as Taj, Oberoi and ITC Come Into Focus

India’s listed hotel sector is approaching the second quarter of FY2026–27 earnings season with an early positive signal from the luxury segment. The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has reported strong year-on-year growth in revenue and net profit, while the September-quarter results of several other major hotel companies remain unverified in the available disclosures.

The distinction is important. Strong earnings from one luxury operator cannot establish a sector-wide trend. The broader outlook will depend on how effectively hotel groups convert demand into room revenue, protect operating margins and generate returns from their expanding portfolios.

The Leela reported operating revenue of ₹412 crore for Q2 FY27, marking 33% year-on-year growth, while net profit increased 27% to approximately ₹95 crore, according to an October 14 report by The Economic Times. The results provide an encouraging early indication of business momentum at the luxury operator, although room rates, occupancy, operating expenses and property-level contributions are necessary to understand the drivers behind the performance.

Brand-wise Q2 FY27 outlook

For Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which operates Taj, Vivanta and Ginger, the September-quarter results will be important in understanding performance across luxury, upscale and mid-market segments. Revenue growth, EBITDA margins, management-fee income and the contribution of new properties will be key indicators. Its Q1 FY27 results provide the latest verified reference point available here, but Q2 figures need confirmation through the company's official financial-results page.

ITC Hotels is another important company to watch. Its Q2 results will offer a clearer view of business momentum following its separation from ITC Limited. Revenue growth and profitability, alongside the contribution of newly opened hotels, will help establish whether the company is expanding earnings in line with its portfolio. September-quarter figures should be confirmed through its official quarterly-results page.

For EIH Limited, the company behind Oberoi and Trident hotels, the latest available reference in the sources reviewed is Q1 FY27 revenue of ₹656.96 crore and net profit of ₹120.31 crore. These figures establish a baseline rather than a prediction for the September quarter. The next results will show whether the group's premium portfolio can maintain profitability amid changes in operating costs and seasonal demand. Investors can track disclosures through Business Standard's quarterly-results page.

Lemon Tree Hotels will provide a useful perspective on the mid-market and business-hotel segment. Revenue growth needs to be assessed alongside operating margins, debt obligations and the contribution of recently opened properties. For a growing hotel chain, expansion is valuable only when new properties begin to contribute meaningfully to earnings. Its investor disclosures are the reference for confirming Q2 results.

Chalet Hotels, meanwhile, offers another perspective on the relationship between hospitality assets and profitability. The latest available Q1 FY27 summary reports revenue of ₹512.27 crore and net profit of ₹86.13 crore. Its September-quarter figures will help clarify the performance of its hotel portfolio and associated hospitality assets. These Q1 numbers should not be mistaken for Q2 results.

As of October 15, 2026, Q2 FY27 figures for these five companies could not be verified in the sources reviewed for this article. Their results should therefore be treated as pending verification, rather than assumed to be announced or unavailable across all reporting channels.

Revenue growth is only part of the story

The wider industry's performance will depend on the relationship between revenue growth and profitability. Higher room rates and occupancy can improve hotel revenue, but increases in employee costs, utilities, food expenses, maintenance and financing can absorb part of those gains.

Luxury operators face the challenge of sustaining premium pricing while maintaining service standards. Mid-market chains must focus on occupancy, distribution costs and operating efficiency. Companies expanding their portfolios need to demonstrate that new properties can generate adequate returns on investment.

Comparisons also require care because hotel companies follow different business models. An operator that owns and runs its properties has a different cost structure from an asset-light group that earns management and franchise fees. Revenue, EBITDA margins and net profit must therefore be evaluated alongside portfolio composition and the contribution of individual business segments.

Outlook: The next set of results will determine the trend

The Leela's reported Q2 performance provides an encouraging early signal, particularly for the luxury segment. However, the wider listed hotel industry's earnings outlook will become clearer only when comparable September-quarter results from IHCL, ITC Hotels, EIH, Lemon Tree and Chalet Hotels are verified.

Revenue growth, EBITDA margins, net profit, average room rates, occupancy and returns from new investments will offer a more complete picture than headline revenue alone. The industry's expansion story will ultimately be judged not simply by how many hotels are added, but by whether those properties generate sustainable earnings.

For now, the Q2 FY27 outlook is encouraging based on The Leela's reported performance, but remains inconclusive for the wider Indian hotel sector. The next wave of company results will determine whether this early momentum reflects a broader industry trend or the performance of individual operators.
