The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has taken a significant step forward in the global hospitality industry by joining the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). This membership aligns The Leela with some of the most influential hotel groups in the world, reinforcing its position as a leader in luxury hospitality.
Established in Mumbai in 1986, The Leela now operates 12 opulent properties across India’s most iconic locations. The brand is renowned for its exceptional service and luxury experiences, earning accolades such as being named the World’s Best Hotel Brand by Travel + Leisure for two consecutive years. It continues to rank among the top three hotel brands globally, maintaining its legacy of excellence.
The WTTC represents the global travel and tourism industry, bringing together its top leaders to drive sustainable growth and economic impact. The council works closely with governments and businesses to shape policies that benefit the sector worldwide.
Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, welcomed The Leela into the WTTC family, highlighting the brand’s commitment to luxury and sustainable practices. “Welcoming The Leela into the WTTC family underscores their unwavering commitment to luxury and sustainable practices,” said Simpson. “The Leela’s dedication sets a high bar in the hospitality industry.”
Anuraag Bhatnagar, CEO of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, expressed his enthusiasm for joining WTTC. “At The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, we are dedicated to delivering unparalleled luxury experiences and fostering sustainable growth. This membership aligns perfectly with our vision, and we eagerly anticipate contributing to the industry's future alongside esteemed peers,” Bhatnagar stated.
Under Bhatnagar’s leadership, The Leela has expanded its portfolio by adding five new hotels and introducing innovative initiatives like The Leela Palace Services, Ceremonial Rituals, and Aujasya by The Leela. These efforts have further solidified The Leela’s status as a pinnacle of Indian luxury.
