The St. Regis New York, one of Manhattan’s most iconic hotels, is celebrating its 120th anniversary with the unveiling of a dramatic renovation. This milestone marks a new era of glamour and sophistication for the hotel, which has been a symbol of luxury since its founding in 1904. The extensive redesign, led by the renowned Champalimaud Design firm, has refreshed key public spaces, including the historic lobby, the legendary King Cole Bar, and two new dining outlets. The renovations blend the hotel’s rich Beaux-Arts architectural heritage with modern design elements, creating a fresh, contemporary aesthetic that appeals to today’s global travelers.

“We are thrilled to debut the exquisite renovation of our first St. Regis hotel and global flagship,” said Jenni Benzaquen, Senior Vice President of The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts. “This anniversary is a significant milestone, reflecting our enduring legacy of luxury, personalized service, and contemporary elegance that has captivated guests around the world. As we honor our rich heritage, we remain deeply attuned to the desires of both our loyal guests and the next generation of luxury travelers, ensuring that every experience we offer is as extraordinary and bespoke as it is timeless.”

Founded by John Jacob Astor IV, The St. Regis New York quickly became the epicenter of Manhattan’s social life, attracting high society and elite figures. Astor’s vision was to create a hotel that rivaled the finest establishments in Europe, where his close friends and family could enjoy the opulence of a private residence. The hotel soon became the home of "Caroline's 400," an elite social circle named after Astor’s mother, Caroline Astor. Over the decades, The St. Regis has been a gathering place for some of the world’s most glamorous and creative personalities, including Salvador Dalí and Marilyn Monroe. It has also been the birthplace of cultural moments, such as the invention of the Bloody Mary cocktail and iconic jazz performances on the hotel’s rooftop.

The recent renovations are a testament to the hotel’s ongoing commitment to luxury and innovation. The redesigned lobby now features restored original windows, dating back to the early 1900s, as well as a stunning stained-glass window inspired by the hotel’s original Tiffany design. The reception area has been transformed with a new color scheme, featuring light, neutral tones accented by bold pops of red, inspired by Caroline Astor’s favorite flower, the American Beauty Rose. The expanded lobby now includes a welcoming area with custom-designed wall coverings and luxurious furnishings, blending old-world charm with modern sophistication.

The renovation also introduces two new dining venues. The Drawing Room, located just off the lobby, offers a relaxed yet elegant dining experience, with a color palette that echoes the vibrant tones of the King Cole Bar’s famous mural. Sumptuous velvet couches and plush armchairs invite guests to linger, while a collection of books from the original Astor Library adds a touch of history. La Maisonette, another new addition, offers breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea in a bright, airy space inspired by French design and the hotel’s original 1910s breakfast room. The King Cole Bar itself has been refreshed with new dark wood paneling and a deep green ceiling, while retaining the iconic Maxfield Parrish mural that has long been the bar’s centerpiece.

“The St. Regis New York has stood as a beacon for generations of global travelers looking to be in the center of Manhattan and surround themselves in the timeless allure that has defined the Fifth Avenue icon since its founding,” said General Manager Octavia Marginean-Tahiroglu. “This renovation is a milestone moment for the cherished New York City icon as we present our masterfully redesigned public spaces in our 120th anniversary year.”

The design team at Champalimaud Design has brought new energy to the historic hotel, preserving its legacy while introducing contemporary touches. The space’s original chandeliers and crown moldings have been retained, while modern furnishings, rich textures, and a sophisticated color palette bring the hotel firmly into the 21st century. The result is an urban haven that pays homage to the hotel’s glamorous past while embracing the needs and desires of today’s luxury traveler.

Guests of The St. Regis New York can now enjoy the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comfort, with the hotel’s updated public spaces offering a luxurious retreat in the heart of Manhattan.

Atmosphere Core continues its international expansion with the signing of its first resort in Nepal, Aarunya Nature Resort by Atmosphere, located in the peaceful valleys of Banepa, just outside Kathmandu. This move strengthens the group's vision of becoming a leading brand in the niche ‘inspiring destinations’ segment and marks another milestone in its growing global footprint.

Set to open in Q4 2025, Aarunya Nature Resort is being developed in partnership with Lost Horizon Jungle Resort Limited. The resort will reflect Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts' philosophy of heartfelt hospitality and curated brand experiences in one of South Asia’s most beautiful landscapes. Perched at 5,000 feet above sea level, Banepa is an ancient town in Nepal’s Bagmati Province, surrounded by misty hills, sacred trails, and offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including glimpses of Mount Everest on clear days.

Commenting on the expansion, Mr. Salil Panigrahi, Group Managing Director of Atmosphere Core, said, “Nepal is fast emerging as a key destination in South Asia’s luxury hospitality landscape, and travellers are increasingly seeking immersive, offbeat destinations. With properties coming up in Maldives, India, and Sri Lanka, Aarunya Nature Resort is a natural next step. Our distinctive Holiday Plan concept opens up destinations once reserved for the global elite. It’s about making these spaces more accessible without compromising on authenticity. Aarunya Nature Resort by Atmosphere is more than a resort, it’s a way to truly experience Nepal, its stories, its rituals, its generous spirit.”

Every aspect, from the architecture to the locally inspired menus, will reflect the rich character of the Kathmandu Valley. Guests will have access to curated dining options across two restaurants, including an all-day dining venue with alfresco spaces and a specialty restaurant highlighting Asian and Nepali cuisine.

The resort will also house a wellness sanctuary by ELE|NA, Atmosphere Core’s award-winning wellness brand. Designed as a peaceful space for rest and renewal, it will offer a blend of traditional therapies and modern wellness practices amidst the quiet beauty of the valley. Guests can explore a wide range of recreational experiences such as nature walks, cultural immersions, and family-friendly activities. A swimming pool and a dedicated kids’ club will also be part of the amenities, ensuring memorable stays for families, solo travellers, and groups alike.

Mr. Gyanendra Lal Pradhan, Chairman of Lost Horizon Jungle Resort Limited, shared, “Partnering with Atmosphere Core is a natural fit. Their approach to hospitality is both grounded in global service standards and elevated by unique experiences – exactly what we envisioned for Aarunya. Surrounded by cultural treasures and iconic trails, like the path to the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery in Namobuddha, Banepa is emerging as a mindful luxury destination. It blends history, spirituality, and natural beauty in a way that few places can. We’re proud to be shaping something special here, together.”

Turtle Power: 15 Years of Pioneering Conservation at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives

Turtle Power: 15 Years of Pioneering Conservation at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives

In March 2010, an injured Olive Ridley turtle named Oceane sparked the beginning of an extraordinary journey of conservation at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives. This turtle’s rescue and rehabilitation marked the inception of one of the longest and most successful turtle rehabilitation programs in the Indian Ocean.

The journey began with the simple yet impactful act of providing care for Oceane, a female turtle found in urgent need of help. Her recovery was made possible with the limited resources available at the time, but soon after, the success of the program encouraged further developments. In 2011, thanks to a generous donation from a guest, a dedicated turtle pool was built, and in collaboration with the Reefscapers organization, the Maldivian Sea Turtle Conservation Programme (MSTCP) was established, marking the opening of the first turtle rehabilitation center at Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru.

Over the past 15 years, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has rehabilitated more than 500 sea turtles, releasing over 280 back into the wild. Significant advancements during this time include the creation of an ocean enclosure, the development of prosthetic flippers, the introduction of satellite tagging, and the arrival of on-site veterinarians and upgraded medical facilities. Today, the program has a specialized team capable of performing complex surgeries with the help of cutting-edge technology like endoscopes, underwater ultrasound scanners, and laser therapy machines.

Highlights of the 15-Year Turtle Rehabilitation Program:

The Flying Turtles

In 2016, the “Flying Turtles” program was introduced to provide a permanent home for turtles that couldn’t be released due to injuries, such as missing flippers or buoyancy problems. Six turtles have been rehomed to international oceanariums and marine centers where they serve as ambassadors for their species. One notable story is that of Peggy, an amputee turtle who learned to dive again while living in an oceanarium in Belgium. In 2019, Peggy made a remarkable 5,700 km journey back to the Maldives, ultimately returning to her native grounds in India.

Innovative Educational Programs

Four Seasons Resorts Maldives is committed to inspiring the next generation of marine conservationists. At Kuda Huraa, the Junior Marine Savers initiative allows young adventurers to assist with turtle care and learn about global conservation efforts. Additionally, Landaa Giraavaru offers a Marine Biology internship and a Trainee Marine Biologist program that introduces teenagers to the world of marine life through hands-on experiences. Many of the program's participants have gone on to pursue biology at university.

Prosthetic Limbs for Trooper

In February 2018, a juvenile Olive Ridley turtle named Trooper was rescued after being severely injured by ghost nets. After losing both front flippers, Trooper was fitted with innovative 3D-printed prosthetic flippers, thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration between marine conservationists and technology experts. Trooper’s story became a symbol of hope for the future of turtle prosthetics, even though he passed away in 2019 despite the best efforts of the care team.

Armando Kraenzlin, Regional Vice President and General Manager at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, shares his thoughts: “It’s been an incredible fifteen years of turtle-based learning, growth, and unforgettable moments. We’re excited to continue collaborating with international oceanariums and marine centers to raise awareness and help give turtles who cannot be released a place to call home. Our Flying Turtles serve as ambassadors for the ocean, spreading a message of hope worldwide.”

For those inspired to take action, the Turtle Team at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives advocates for simple lifestyle changes, such as avoiding single-use plastics and choosing sustainable seafood. Ghost nets, which drift into the Maldives from other countries, remain one of the biggest threats to turtles, making advocacy for sustainably caught fish essential in protecting sea turtles everywhere.

Set-jetting just got an upgrade in Thailand! The luxurious Banyan Tree Samui resort is now offering speedboat tours that let guests experience the stunning island locations seen in HBO’s hit series The White Lotus.

Fans of the show will recall the final scene where characters sail away from Koh Samui into the sunset — a moment now recreated in real life thanks to "Sense of the Sea," the resort’s sleek new 12-metre speedboat. This 400HP beauty is specially designed for luxury day trips, complete with personalized service, onboard comfort, and the same scenic views that lit up TV screens worldwide.

Guests can join eight-hour excursions through the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park, a breathtaking archipelago of 42 islands with limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and turquoise waters — all of which served as a dreamy backdrop in The White Lotus’ third season.

Prefer shorter getaways? There’s a six-hour trip to Koh Phangan, made famous for its Full Moon Party depicted in the series. Or you can unwind on the 5 Islands Sunset Cruise or take a leisurely tour of Koh Taen and Koh Matsum, the latter affectionately known as Thailand’s “Bay of Pigs” for its beach-loving wild pigs.

Each tour is customizable for private groups or special occasions, with plenty of time for snorkeling, swimming, lounging, or even popping champagne mid-sea. The surrounding waters are teeming with marine life—from colorful fish and coral reefs to turtles, sharks, and dugongs.

Back at the resort, the White Lotus spirit continues. From locally-inspired welcome gifts to wellness programs featuring yoga, meditation, and healthy cuisine, the property is embracing what many now call "The White Lotus Effect."

The resort’s spa has even launched a "Sense of Lotus" treatment — a 120-minute refresh that begins with a White Lotus Polisher, made with lotus seed beads for gentle exfoliation.

And what better way to toast your experience than with the resort’s new cocktail, the White Lotus? It’s a tropical blend of vodka, white rum, lychee and lime juices, coconut milk, and fresh lychee, topped with Damask rose petals.

With 88 hillside villas each offering a private infinity pool and sweeping ocean views, Banyan Tree Samui is the kind of place where cinematic beauty meets real-world comfort. Add to that three top restaurants, a MICHELIN-listed dining experience at Saffron, an award-winning spa, private beach, and coral-fringed coastlines, and you’ve got the ultimate retreat for fans, adventurers, and romantics alike.
